OT: Seger tour

Bob Seger is doing another tour with several dates in Western Canada including March 27 in Vancouver which I'm planning on going to see. Has anyone seen him on tour recently? If so, still good? I've seen him 3 times, 1983,1987 and 1996.

He won't be coming here to eastern Canada - he was booed off stage in Moncton in 1978 and vowed never to return. We're a classy bunch.

Saw him in DEC 2011 - sounded solid & it was a very good show.

Have fun.

Saw him twice in 2011 and twice in 2006. It's easy for me, I live in Michigan. I've encountered him when I was a guest at a friends snotty country club in Oakland County. He drives them crazy. You're supposed dress like you're going to a cotillion just to have lunch or play golf in the damned place but he continually shows up in a blue jeans and a faded black t-shirt with a pack of cigarettes rolled up in the sleeve.

That said, I hope he shakes up the set-list. He's been playing essentially the same show since 1987. He opens with 'Roll Me Away' and then goes into 'Trying To Live My Life Without You' and then 'Night Moves.' He'll throw in a few ringers but not as many as we old timers would like.

The band is sh-t hot!

Last year I bought both Live Bullet and 9 Tonight remasters at Walmart for $15each. They both came in a box with a bonus tshirt. I remember in 96 he was touring in support of a new album and he did a few songs off of it. He actually told the crowd thanks for being patient when he played them!

Have to agree that the band was fantastic when I saw them in 96 & 06.

While I can understand that "true fans" would like a bit of a shake up of the set list, seeing as "Live Bullet" & "Nine Tonight" are my favorite BS&SB albums, I'd actually be OK if he played nothing but those two albums. OK, so that may not be the whole truth but it's close. I can say that after enjoying the deceptive guitar intro to "Old Time Rock & Roll" from "Nine Tonight, for so long, I was actually disappointed when I heard them use the traditional piano intro when I finally saw them live. Funny how what you're used to can effect your preception. Some day I do plan on updating my collection of his old albums. I just haven't gotten around to it yet!

I hope he expands the tour to include the S.E. USA... My wife's never seen him & I'd like to go again!

Peace,
Mr DJA

I saw him in December of 2011 and he was very good. I also went to the shpw without a ticket and scored a fifth row center stage seat for $75.00. Great show for the money. I wish he had played a little longer but other than that top notch!

If you're a Seger fan, you'll enjoy his shows. I'm younger, so I never saw him live. But of everyone else, he was my all time favorite artist growing up. My parents liked him so thats how I was exposed, and you don't see many 3 year olds walking around yelling the lyrics to Sunspot Baby! I had settled with the fact that I would never see him live just because he disappeared.

Then 2006 came. He released an excellent new album Face The Promise, and the second Madison Square Garden was announced, my dad and I were on Ticketmaster for tickets. There was just no feeling like seeing someone who was truly an idol of my childhood that I never thought would ever tour again. That 2006 show was fantastic. Great sounding band, excellent setlist selection (he was touring behind a new album which was cool and rocked at the shows, even for someone like me that just wanted the hits). I figured "that was it. I finally saw Bob Seger and probably never will again."

Then came 2011. Saw him in Boston and New York again. He was probably even better this time around. Not touring behind anything, but playing some excellent deep cuts (he played one of my all time favorites, Shinin' Brightly, in Boston and I was pretty much in tears for the whole song). Being that it was Boston and Nine Tonight is one of my favorite live albums of all time, I was hoping for Nine Tonight or Let It Rock to be included, but it was a great show without them. New York again for whats probably my real last time. Boston was alone and New York was a chance to see him with my dad again like in 2006, and that alone made us so happy. There aren't many that will truly bring us that close together. Having Bruce Springsteen come out (my idol after Seger) was a dream come true for both of us. Just 3 stunning shows I've seen by Seger that I wouldn't trade for the world.

Bottom line, if you are a fan, its absolutely worth it, especially if you haven't seen him recently. He gives an incredible show for his age, and you have to see it with a sense of nostalgia. His prices are pretty fair, and if he came around to my area again I would go in a heartbeat. Him touring around essentially the same setlists is getting old to me and other hardcore fans, but if it really bugged me I wouldn't see him. He can do what he wants and I'm just happy he's out there. My only request: choose a different opener than Roll Me Away! I love the song, but he really got my hopes up this tour when he said "we're opening with something different" and then he opened maybe five shows with Feel Like A Number then dropped it. Thats the only lazy part of the show IMO, but people eat that song up so again I can't totally blame him.

Can't work out how I feel about Seger. Some of his stuff (Night Moves, Come to Poppa, Fire lake for example) are brilliant but other tracks seem quite middle of the road and boring. Maybe I need to listen to a bit more.

First saw him in 1977. Many times since including the last 2 tours. Always great and really seems to love the crowd and touring. Starting to show his age though.

And, as previously stated, I wish he would change the setlist. "Old Time" should be his opener to get it out of the way. Like the Stones, he has a deep and varied catalog to choose from.

Would go see him again in a minute though.

Marvpeck saw him in Detriot in the 60's. Marv?

I would go again, too. I saw him in '78 and then again in '11 (at MSG,with the Boss guesting on Old Time Rock N' Roll). I've seen many concerts in my lifetime, but one of the all time highlights is Turn the Page in concert. Everyone singing along in unison. Great feeling!

Seger doesn't dress cool.
He dresses like a slob.
There's a big difference.

C'mon Bob, you're a rockstar for God's sake. Fix yourself up, get out there and @#$%& carry it man! Damn.

Turn The Page is definitely chill inducing. Its funny, that was a song I learned so much later after I already knew Seger's catalogue. Its not a song I associate so strongly with him as one of his classics, yet its the one EVERYONE at shows will know. Definitely one of the best concert singalong moments I've seen at any show. And its like clockwork every time that it immediately gets the people singing.

Getting his teeth whitened wouldn't hurt either.

In 2006 they opened the comeback tour in my town. I had a solo seat not far from Bob's wife and kids. His teenage daughter had a couple of friends along and one of them mooned the crowd before showtime. They were escorted out and Mrs. Seger watched the entire show alone.

Oh hell yes, go see him. Me and Elmo both dug his show a year of two back.
Maybe I'm prejudiced being from Detoit and all but the dude's still got it.
His sax player too
And the cat behind the drums...old Grand Funk Drummer....

Hey Elmo
