Well, as we know they pretty much have to play
a lot of Hot Rocks for the mainstream crowd that
will want to hear these, but hopefully they'll
again try to keep it interesting for those of
us who've laready seen and heard them play
these a kazilion times before.

I'd love a set of old blues rock standards like
Confessing the Blues, Look What You've Done,
Route 66, Little Queenie, and whole album
shows, Exile in particular, would be
great!!!!

There will be new songs but I doubt they'll change the template of the stadium set of every tour since 81.

The key is new songs. That's why I liked the Voodoo and Bridges tours because the new songs added so much and they were strong tunes. I find greatest hits tours boring in general. Yes, they will and have to play certain songs but here's hoping for at least three new ones every show. My vote for omission is It's Only Rock and Roll, Miss You. I like Tumblin, Happy.

Davido, I don't think Mick can really pull off any authentic blues song on a stadium show. Last tour, most of the blues songs on the b-stage were played rather uninspired. I do think they could do a great blues set during a theathre show.

I loved Mannish Boy on the B-stage on the Licks-tour. He would never sing it like he did in 1977, but noone expected him too either.

Yes, stadium shows pretty much have to be powerhouse ones
which also would mean that what would come across best for
most, at least casual fans, would be the hot rocks
and other instantly recognizable standards.

Mick and Keith (and Chuck):

Please skip the following songs for the stadium shows on the next tour:

Honky Tonk Women (play Child Of The Moon instead)
It's Only Rock'n'Roll (play Come On or Carol instead)
You Got Me Rocking (play If You Can't Rock Me instead)
Miss You (play Emotional Rescue instead)
Sweet Virginia (play Dear Doctor instead)
Paint It, Black (play We Love You instead)

Definetely TD, Miss U, Angie, i also grow tired of it and that takes a lot.

Don't mind any of the Warhorses as long as they're played in annother (bluesier or heavier) fashion. It's always nice to see the crowd when HTW starts and singalong.

But no silly pop gues appearances, some hard guitars maybe.

GS depends on the interpretation, more psycic maybe. And what would our Lisa do without GS?

BTW, i read that Chuck has cancelled his appearance on the next tour?

Miss You and Tumbling Dice have to go.

They should reduce the covers to a minimum. Skip songs like Love Train, I Just Want To Make Love To You and Everybody Needs Somebody To Love.

Also get rid of You Can't Always Get What You Want, Dance (Part 1) and No Expectations.

"BTW, i read that Chuck has cancelled his appearance on the next tour?"

LOL

I could definetaly do without Honky Tonk Women, although it;s a crowd favorite.
Also Angie and Wild Horses don't work for me in a big stadium.

But then again it's because i (we) heard those songs to many times in comparison to the 95% procent of the stadium crowds. If i had my way with the setlist they could probably only play in bars.

Cheers,
Wuudy

I dunno, I like the covers, they help keep it interesting too!

"Street Fighting Man" just seemed silly this time around, Mick is far from his protest days.
"It's Only Rock and Roll" has had so many chances to "go over" and has failed everytime. I don't know why they bother playing this one live if they are never going to make it sound like the recorded version that is so great.
"Tumbling Dice" have rolled off the table and out the door ... go away please.
"Sympathy for the Devil" always a favorite but I'd much rather hear something in its place this time around.
Songs I would love to hear this time around: "Emotional Rescue", "Dance Little Sister","Time Waits For No ONe" and "2000 Man".

look - every tour the die-hards complain about the warhorses and every tour they play them. complain all you like - they will be played, 'cos that's what the Stones do and what the (non die-hard) fans expect and demand. end of story.

Personally, my $.02 - I would love to hear a 20-minute version of TD...it's the one warhorse that never fails to satisfy....

I think this thread is very yar-yar.
Hey, lets do everything yar-yar wise. Let's have Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman back.

Yeah, like Torn and Frayed from Palais Royale.

If I never hear TD again, I will be fine.

As for reference about MJ being beyond his Street Fighting days; while I agree with that, for me the message of the song is that he never was into that street fighting. Unkike Lennon, MJ refuswed to get sucked into it all, after all, "what can a poor boy do, 'cept sing..."
