Twickenham Stadium 1 June 2013?
Posted by: john lomax ()

I live in Twickenham and just received the January Newsletter from Twickenham Stadium. In the calendar of events for 2013 there is listed a concert on June 1, details to be announced soon.....could this be the Stones?.

Just saw this too (crossing fingers and hoping).

But it could be anybody. We've got Rihanna on 15th/16th June - will superrevvy be there?

Anyway, if it does turn out to be the Stones, the RFU does a local residents' ballot for the chance to buy seats at a 15% discount. Not very good seats though, judging by the Rihanna ballot.

That's only with your Old Age Pensioner's card though.

Well Wembley is such a horrible place to get in and out of,Twickenham also close to Richmond and all their history.

And the new Wembley is unfamiliar whereas they've played Twickenham 4 times

Personally I prefer Wembley as a stadium venue. Having said that I hope there are no more stadium gigs, arenas only please.

Wasn´t that supposed to be taken down right after the olympics?

Imo that'd be a pro : Jagger's always eager to play in new venues.
In 1998 he struggled to death (with Johnny Halliday... ahem!) to be the first act to play at the "Stade de France". And he won! Whew! grinning smiley

They will have to figure out SOMETHING to do with Olympic stadium, other than let it sit and rot as Beijing's has. A Stones residency? 4 nights over a week? Doing multiple gigs in only certain large markets is maybe their best way to conduct a tour:

1. Less travel and wear and tear on the band
2. Save the cost of moving and setting up a stage every other day - set up once and leave for a week
3. Fewer technical issues - everything is perfected at the first show

Olympic Stadium in London, then Paris, Rome, maybe Poland or Sweden? Tokyo, Bangalore, Melbourne, Beijing, Rio, Dallas, LA, Chicago, NYC, Boston, Toronto.

Live Nation is to host a series of concerts and festivals at the Olympic Park and Stadium this summer.

The Wireless Festival and Hard Rock Calling - which were previously held in London's Hyde Park - are the first events confirmed for the venue.

The move ends a 10-year link the concert promoter had with The Royal Parks.

Live Nation previously had complaints from residents about noise levels at events it has hosted in the park.

Live Nation was awarded the Olympic Park contract by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), which is responsible for future use of the Olympic Park and its venues.

"The confidence now shown by one of the world's leading live entertainment promoters to relocate two of its biggest music festivals from the centre of the capital is a ringing endorsement of our legacy plans," Mayor of London and LLDC chairman, Boris Johnson, said.

"Along with the other major international sports events we have already secured this latest news proves that the park has a very bright future indeed."

Both Wireless and Hard Rock Calling will be held in July in the North Park.

Live Nation said it plans to announce "some major concerts with world-renowned artists" over the coming weeks.
