Stones and Tattoos

Why did they never get tattoo's? Keith could have had the hideous shipwreck one that the dud from 1 Direction had. Ronnie should have had Ozzys manky blue creation on his moobs when he was off his rocket on Crack in the 80s. For Charlie, perhaps a subtle butterfly. Wyman should have had a condom shaped little number done on his cock, so he could pretend it was all safe and above board.

Oh why do my favourite band not have tattoos?

Because tattoos weren't popular back in the 60's

They didn't want to look like Tommy Lee.

Whaddaya mean? Keith and Mick both had their faces completely tattoo'ed in '81 and have been loading on the pancake to hide it ever since.

Because getting tattooed wasn't an essential part of being a rock star until years and years after the Stones became famous - and it's mostly an American thing anyway.

They never got tatoos because they have always had good taste.

Why did they never get tattoo's?

Why? To look like Buckcherry?

And yes I'm all lit up again:

There could be a socio-cultural answer to this.

As teenagers growing up, post war, in London, the members of the Stones would have associated tattoos as symbols of the army and navy. The army and navy types would have said, in a nasty way, that they fought in wars, or did national service, for the likes of the Stones.

As someone in their early 40s, and familiar with tattoos, though not having any, I associated tattoos with certain organisations. For example, certain football hooligan organisations had certain tattoos. Also, certain far right organisations in Britain had other tattoos, and ACAB was often observed on peoples' knuckles too. I'd leave people to google ACAB, as I don't wish to swear on this forum.

Another thing that has concerned me, and there were certainly a fair few of them in the late 90s onwards, was the amount of unlicensed inkers in Britain, and the amount of problems that have occurred from people getting bad tattoos.

I am not against tattoos, but wouldn't have any myself.

The Stones are at the age where they are probably delighted that they did NOT get tattoos... old skin and tattoos are a like milk and tequlia, kind of a bad combo... that is IF the tats ever did look good/cool when they are young... because it seems the trend these days is to see who can get the stupidest looking tattoo.

I´m so glad they had class and style never to do this. And good to see that an icon like Keith doesn`t need any of them just to look dangerous or rockn roll like.

I thought Keith had a tattoo on his right forearm? I'm sure I've seen a simple black one on there before. Maybe it was henna or I'm just mistaken.
