You beat me to it! Some tasty guitar from Keith. Tom Waits knows his way around a sea chantey.

Interesting...I guess Keith's Pirates of the Caribbean pedigree added something to the song that Waits had to have.

100,000,000 times better than Dylan's awful 1988 version on Down In The Groove.

Van Morrison does a great version with The Chieftains. Bill Frisell doesn't do too badly with it either.

Speaking of Rogues Gallery: Mingulay Boat Song by Richard Thompson is excellent, as is Good Ship Venus by Loudon Wainwright, and Baltimore Whores by Gavin Friday.

Hal Wilner is great as a producer of strange, esoteric material, be it Disney on Stay Awake, Mingus on Weird Nightmare, and Poe poems and stories on Closed On Account of Rabies.

Shane did an earlier version of Leaving of The Liverpool with the Pogues: it's a bonus track on Red Roses For Me.

Flandyke Shore crops up on Marianne's Easy Come, Easy Go album. However, I am seriously looking forward to this album.

Great to see, that there are other pogues-fans here on iorr (I think stonestod likes them as well)! As far as I know, Leaving of Liverpool was released as a b.side on the Sally Maclennane 12inch single smileys with beer

Pogues are great: they did Greenland Whale Fisheries too, and South Australia.

The Pogues loved sea chanteys, after all what is The Irish Rover, but a sea chantey. I wonder if people know that there's an extra verse to the Irish Rover ?

Why can't Keith sound this impassioned with the Stones nowadays..?

Bah. Not my thing.

I'm surprised they didn't mix some burps and farts in there.

Actually they spent considerable time and energy mixing them out...it was littered with farts

What's the consensus on when/what Keith plays exactly, the noodling at 1'37 ? Harmonies too? I think I prefer "Handsome Molly" not that I care much for that style ;-)
