I never realized Torn was a deep album cut, I guess I live in a cave made from various Exile reissues. Sorry I am not good at lists. TD is my choice if anyone's counting but I'm starting to feel bad for "Street Fighting Man", seems a forgotten song these days,

ya, I would say the same....because if I went with JJF, then maybe I'd have to go with Satisfaction, or maybe Brown Sugar, or Street Fighting Man even, but to me, the definer over their career is Midnight Rambler.

How deep of an album cut it is depends on who you talk to I guess. It doesn't appear on any compilations that I know of, and isn't a concert staple, so I'd say it's something of a deep album cut. It isn't to us, but what cut is deep to us? We've heard them all.

why are they called deep cuts? are there shallow cuts? these things bother me.

In the end it's gotta be JJF.

I don't think they're called "shallow cuts", just "hits". The name "deep cut" I've always assumed meant that one has to dig a little deeper than a greatest hits album or radio station playlist to discover the song.
