There are two versions of version one (!), the second version (Flowers) has the chorus accompaniment at the right channel. "Aftermath" has it centered.

Brown Sugar

Very hard, as for me everything pre-JJF is like another band. JJF seemed to be the start of a new era. Satisfaction established the band. Tough call.

But I may have to go with Happy24's pick: Brown Sugar. Great riff, great lyrics that pushed the envelope, which to me, makes The Stones the band they are. They wrote some pop ditties, but they also had a bad side....the guys your mother warned you about. Works great in the studio version or live, which Satisfaction never did.

I'd have to say "It's Only Rock N Roll (But I Like It)". The music is a very laid back rockin' jam, and the lyrics (or at least the title) pretty much sums it all up. Them, us, fans of other bands, etc. I'm sure we've all had to defend our love of rock music or the Stones to somebody at some point.

Difficult. I'd say my favourite Stones song is Gimme Shelter but live it would be Midnight Rambler. Also, I distinguish between favourite, (my taste), and ultimate as in representing what they stand for. In that respect I think the ultimate Stones song would be Midnight Rambler, but live. I actually never listen to the studio version.

Torn and Frayed. Funny how almost everyone else has chose a "Warhorse", so I didn't.

I should change to this maybe. TD is perfectly mixed, the vocals are one with the instruments. Mick's greatest studio vocal performance buried in the music in perfect irony. Jimmy Miller's ballsy contribution as he power drums the outro.
