Welcome to 2013 everyone.

Just posted online, my reviews of Goat's Head Soup, It's Only Rock'n'Roll and Tattoo You plus some classic singles - all overdue for reappraisal. See what you think here [onlyrockanroll.wordpress.com]

All feedback very welcome

I think I actually prefer the Some Girls bonus album to the original one. Doh! Or maybe it's because I have just heard too much of the original one now.

Tattoo You is definitely up there - smooth, cool, still sounding modern - not a wasted track IMHO.

What about the BIG FOUR OF THE VEGAS ERA (AKA THE ONLY FOUR!)?

Steel Wheels
Voodoo Lounge
Bridges To Babylon
A Bigger Bang

All within a 20 year time span!

stop exaggerating. it took them a mere 16 years to knock off these masterpieces.

you may be possibly forgetting 'start up and wind down' times.

1987-2007

These things don't just 'happen' you know!

Yeah but TY includes a couple of tunes that were "wasted" from the B&B sessions. If they were included on B&B would they still sound modern? They would have 5 more years on them, etc.

I think you are confused THE big four are

1] The Rolling Stones

2] The Rolling Stones 2

3] Between the Buttons

4] Their Satanic Majesties Request

Everybody knows that. And the next three are ofcourse

5] Out Of Our Heads (UK)

6] Aftermath

7] Live in England

Your reviews were good and insightful. However you dissed one of all time favorite tracks. Under My Thumb is not a weak track its one of the best tracks the Stones have ever done!!!

I would agree that the three albums you chose to review are three of the most overlooked albums in all of rock. GHS is my favorite of the three you reviewed. The Stones have so many great albums and songs its tough to pick which is best. EOMS is always my favorite but cases can be made for others.

Leave UMT alone though great great song!!!!

After the big 4, I would have the following in my top 10:

Some Girls
The Rolling Stones Now
Tattoo You
Aftermath (US version)
Brussels Affair
England's Newest Hitmakers

Voodoo Lounge is very good and might merit inclusion some day. When you think about it, the later albums are so long, they are the same length as 2-3 60's albums.

The Rolling Stones 1964
The Rolling Stones No 2 1965
Out of our Heads US 1965
Aftermath UK 1966

A Hard Days Night 1964
Help 1965
Rubber Soul 1965
Revolver 1966

Another Side of Bob Dylan 1964
Bringin it all back home 1965
Highway 61 Revisited 1965
Blonde on blonde 1966

Examples of Big Four's from the sixties...

After the Big Four comes these three: 1. Tatto You 2. Some Girls 3. Goat's Head Soup. The Big Three official live recordings are (for me): 1. Ya-Ya's 2. Love You Live 3. Still Life.

Why the downer in the review on "100 Years Ago"?

Many Stones fans (including me) love it.

A Bigger Bang......... as my head explodes with indecision.................

Even Steel Wheels & Dirty Work have some sweet moments

Although my BIG 3 are GHS, B & B and Undercover.................

GHS has so much beauty, B & B has a mix of beauty and dirty and Undercover is flat out filthy......cool smiley..........great stuff

Luckily all Stones albums give me pleasure, one way or another. Depends on my mode.... Exile is good for sure, but it doesn't exclude A bigger bang, Voodoo Lounge, Undercover, Black and Blue, Dirty work, or any of the wonderful 60's albums.

It's a pity that 40 Licks and Grrr! only came with 6 new songs, but it's still 6 new songs, and I'd hate to live without them.

At any given day I am able to find a bunch of good Rolling Stones songs to listen to. Sometimes from the 60's, sometimes from the 2000's, and sometimes everything in between.

The misic they have provided for 50 years is a gift to mankind. That's my opinion anyway. smiling smiley

If I were a betting man, I'd say neither...you're missing a rather obvious one.

100 Years ago was played on the first two dates of the European tour in September 1973 and then never again, which might suggest what the rest of the band thought of the song.

How unfortunate if that is true. It's a excellent song.

This is hilarious, Keith talking about this, because he's also said the exact same thing about IORR, which as everyone knows Miller did not work on.

Jimmy ended up carving swastikas into the wooden console in the studio. It took him three months to carve a swastika. Meanwhile Mick and I had to finish up Goats Head Soup.
