What a talent! Love this song and the Harvest album. What other songs do you consider masterpieces of old Neil...

I love Neil but I think I prefer All That Meat And No Potatoes by Fats Waller.

I love his music, except the horrible "experiments" of the years 1980-1988...

Neil is the rare artist who can go from nasty grunge destruction to
sweet beautiful ballads and back again... and back again... etc etc etc and it all fits.

I don't get the hatred towards that period. I personally think Everybody's Rockin' is good stuff. Same with Landing On Water. What's wrong with it?

Spoiled hippy that he is I will always love Neil. The Decade record is what brought me into the fold.

Neil is one of the FEW trying to recapture some of the magic that has been missing from music these days. His new Pono digital music delivery system is a step in the right direction. (I think it's 24-bit, 192kHz resolution) But I'm pretty sure he is recording these days with 2 inch, 8 track analog tape.

His book Waging Heavy peace is on my coffee table as I type and from what I've read so far gives great insight into his life and art. He gives great kudos to the people who have carried him to the level of success he has achieved. That is refreshing. For some of us locals it's like reading the minutes from a town meeting.

He obviously has some good business sense and has learned that writing books is the last vestige of good royalty money. He doesn't write nearly as good as Bob Dylan, imho, but in his defense, not many do. peace

Going through Neil phase at the moment and my tix for next summers Glasgow show arrived through the post this morning.

favourite albums:
Everybody knows (Down by the river)
After the Goldrush (Tell me why)
On the Beach - HIS BEST (See the sky about to rain)
Tonight's the night (Tired eyes)
Comes a time (Going back)
Rust never sleeps (Powderfinger)
harvest moon (from Hank to Hendrix)

Worth checking out:
Neil Young
Harvest
Time fades away
Old Ways
ragged Glory
broken arrow
Mirror ball
silver and gold
prairie wind
Le Noise

avoid:
All the rest

what is seriously worth checking out is his latest, Psychedelic Pill. that has been my Christmas album- on triple vinyl. An astounding return to form. if you hark after the Crazy Horse sound of the mid 70s on amazing new compositions - this is the one for you.

Footnote: Thanks to Mongoose for recommending the Sugarmegs site. I finally found my first Neil Young concert from 93 with Booker T and the MG's - and it doesn't disappoint.

Are You Passionate isn't all that bad; compared to Trans, Life, and Landing on Water, anyway.

Actually I have a bit of a soft spot for Are You Passionate. Guilty pleasure.
