Since James Phelge has started posting here, I reckon he's got this "title" pretty well cornered.
Maybe someone else does too, though?

There you go Doom...........[www.guitars101.com] ...........or here... [www.iorr.org] ........

My first show was Earl's court 21.5.1976 but a friend of mine was at the Cardiff Capitol Theatre on 11.9.1964 and .....she has a program - a Valex Show souvenir, 2/- (2 shillings) (10p or 16 cents) - with Mick's signature on the front..............

My mum saw them 23rd October 1963 in Nottingham, England.

She saw the Stones by accident as she had actually gone to see the Everly Brothers. Her only recollection is of a scrawny little bloke singing "I want to be your man" which she found quite amusing.

Madison Square Garden July 25, 1972 - 2nd show 5th row. 90 shows (and counting) since then, including Newark 2012.

I actually watched the Stones on the Dean Martin show in 1964 but had to wait until '72 when I was old enough to go to a live gig. Parents didn't take their kids to Stones shows in those days.

Philly madness

My first show too. Right up in front. Slept in parking lot by the gate. Real Philly madness.

Great article on that day in Billboard magazine. You can find it in July 29, 1978 issue on pages 40 & 41 on Billboard mag archives site.

And there is a bootleg you can stream on this site

my first gig was june 1990 at hampden in glasgow.

was the first opportunity to see them, i was 21, previous to that gig i would have only been about 13 or 14 when they last played in britain prior to that tour.

and i didnt discover the stones till 1987.

i blame my parents, if they had been a lot quicker i might have managed a gig in the 70,s.

It amazes me how many of us are on IORR whose first show was Philly 78. Where did you guys come from? we came down from NYC in a bus; out in the lot all night; crushed in the 7 am madness when they only opened those small little gates. And up front all day; like you said it was crazy. But what was truly madness was having to suffer through all those Foreigner encores, LOL

Philly 78 was the only East Coast stadium show of that tour that the average fan could get into. The other shows were small theaters and were impossible to get into without some connections and luck (or lots of money for scalpers).

I was there too. The concert was notoriously viewed as a bad performance. Mick was sick and the set list was short and heavy with Some Girls tunes at a time when it had only been released within a week or so of the show. I loved it anyway.

Stonesdoug from Shidoobee has one of the best early Stones stories that I've ever heard. It's short and sweet and involved touching Brians' jacket and trying to pull off the buttons...he saw 2 of their first shows in the USA, I think it was in 1965...could be wrong about the date, but Doug saw 2 shows on the same day, in the days when bands played matinees. He may get the award for earliest gig. He managed to piss of Brian too, but some would not call that an accomplishment to speak of.

Certainly a rough show, the set was short and people threw crap on the stage after they finished. Beer bottles slamming The Ampegs, The horror. I was young and managed to get right up front for the entire show. Foreigner and Peter Tosh too. Still it was my first, I remember the keyboards being great.. Stu and who else? Being from NY, Philly was madness, there was allot of LSD there that day.

Was that 1966, RockinBud? Were you at that Dean Martin show? I was never a fan of Dean's, especially after he made fun of them!
