Fair enough .The point I wanted to make was why all these guests ? They need less "propping up" than any time since Voodoo Lounge.

Maybe on a TV special it is understandable, with Ga Ga's fan base etc. but every gig ? !! WHY ?

Absolutely. He "is" the real deal. When asked on an onstage interview (when he played with Eric Clapton on GMA a few years back) how kids can get into music. He said something like: forget guitarhero and all this digital stuff -- just lock yourself in a room with your guitar and play.

As long as he doesn't sing and just plays his strat it could be interesting.

He is a damn good guitar player, unfortunately his pop compositions have not done him justice. peace

Brad Paisley is the real deal and would fit nicely with the Stones...

I know, I know....he's apparently not famous

Great picker, more along the lines of Albert Lee. Not sure it fits with the Stones though...

I like to say he's the Keith Urban of pop. Keith Urban is an awesome guitar player, you just rarely get to hear it over his syrupy love songs.

Don't you think he dips into the SRV bag of tools more then SRV even did?
He is good but unoriginal...Paisley think Paisley

Love Paisley, have his Mud on the Tires album...but the Stones, have they ever performed with a real country artist, it would be cool IMO.

Sure...Doug Kershaw was real.
I think with all the faux country this band does Paisley would fit well.

Songs like Torn & Frayed or Till The Next Goodbye.
Maybe Loving Cup or the obvious Far Away Eyes...

Mayer will only be playing guitar. He had surgery earlier this year and is unable to sing. He played a few festivals this fall and did the same thing. Merely sitting in on guest spots, just playing the strat,

Haven't checked out the Paisley stuff but thanks for the tip. As far as SRV tricks and tools, more power to him for diving into that man's technique. My impression is that he has a consioderable lighter touch that Stevie which makes for good melodic ballads and fills but fails a bit on the rockers.

I saw him do a couple of Hendrix tunes in Austin one night and he was on fire. Pulled off some tasty covers of Little Wing and Castles Made of Sand, which is difficult to do in that town of a guitar slingers. I was critical and was highly entertained. I expect he will play well tonight. peace

That's a great idea...they've never had a country icon join them. The blues angle has been done to death.

Damn right. That was another of my great ideas along with John Hiatt.

Steve would be great on Before/Run or Sweet Virginia, but he'd have to sing.

And Dead Flowers!! He would be great, good singer and guitar player! Any country like tune would be great, could probably handle some blues too.

He did a great version of Hummingbird with BB King.
It's a pity he's more famous in the UK for dating airheads.

Cool. Check out some of Brad's playing. He is in the same realm as Jerry Donahue if you can believe that!
Heading to the Central Coast this week....hope its not too cold!!

I saw the Paisy clips in this thread and was pleasantly surprised. Thanks Gregg. Looks like he's been woodshedding with the Nashville cats.

It got down to freezing here on the coast last night for the first time after some nice 65-70 degree days. You will be fine as long as you don't try surfing without a wetsuit (again).

I on the other hand will be in Montana starting next week and probably freezin' my ass off. Happy Holidays and have a great visit! peace

That's what Mayer is more famous for in his home country as well.

you made a certain point. they always have blues/jazz guys, female singers, whatever, but they never got a country singer before. thats kind of sad since
their country songs are among the best tunes they ever did (some of them).
