We've all seen movies that have used Stones music and wondered how much the licensing fee was - but of course no one ever spills the beans. I am accidentally watching a terrible Miley Cyrus movie called "LOL," and the director states in the commentary track that it cost $100,000 to license about 56 seconds of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" for a mom-daughter singalong scene involving Miley and Demi Moore -- i.e. about 20 times what the movie grossed at the box office.
You show up here unannounced and claim to be "accidentally" watching a Miley Cyrus movie. But, not just the movie itself, the Director's Cut of said movie. Hmmmmmmm.
You realize that for the same amount of cash, the director could have taken Miley, Billy Rae, Demi, Rumer, Tallulah Belle, and 114 of her other friends to sit in the Tongue Pit in Newark.
What a milfydaughteryduo and what a great song.... sounds kinky... that is, if anyone is into that type of thing... not saying I am... just saying... EPIC!
In the director's commentary to the Nicholas Cage film "The Family Man", the director is talking about how he had to "fight" for "Beast of Burden" to be used in a scene in which Teo Leoni is singing in the shower, because it was not cheap. It's a great scene.
My favorite use of Stones music is "Street Fighting Man" at the end of V for Vendetta. My least favorite? Angelina Jolie singing along with "Satisfaction" in some terrible movie that I saw on a plane.
I would give a thumbs up to most of the times Martin Scorsese has chosen a Stones song for any of his movie sequences, he has done a really a good job with them... and yes, as I wrote that, I realize that there is an obviousness to that statement.
On a side note... not all MS movies... but still pretty cool...
