And some of the answers to my questions was quite interesting though short. Here is the mail and what the replier at Maysels Films answered plotted in:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Kent,

Very quickly some answers
> Subject: Questions regarding The Rolling Stones.
>>
>> Hello everyone at Maysles Films Inc.
>>
>> My name is Kent Alex Pedersen. I'm a big fan of The Rolling Stones.
>> I'm 23 years old and I live in Denmark, Europe in a city called
>> Aarhus.
>>
>> I have the documentary "Gimme Shelter" made by your company, and I
>> must say that it is the best documentary I have ever seen. It's made
>> so good, and the way you portray the sixties killing itself by the
>> hand of some of it's finest sons is just, pardon my French, @#$%&
>> awesome.
>> I have a few questions concerning "Gimme Shelter" and "Conversations
>> With The Rolling Stones" that I hope you can answer. Here goes:
>>
>> 1.- Do you have complete footage of the Altamont Free Festival?

Yes, should be in storage

>> 2.- Are you planning to release a special 2 disc DVD set or a DVD-box
>> of this festival, with the complete Rolling Stones performance (And
>> preferably the other acts like Santana and The Flying Burrito Brothers
>> with Gram Parsons)?

No, no plans as of yet

>>
>> 3.- If not, could I buy copies of the reels with the complete
>> performances (On DVD preferably)?

No unfortunately, that is a huge job and we can not do this

>>
>> 4.- Is the film "Conversations With The Rolling Stones" out on DVD,
>> and if yes, where can I buy a copy? ('Cause I have never seen it).

The film was a work for hire for VH1 Maysles Films does not hold any of the
footage and any of the rights. Sorry

>>
>> 5.- Why is it that these two films ("Gimme Shelter" and "Conversations
>> With The Rolling Stones") aren't out in Europe?

We are working on a DVD release of GIMME SHELTER world-wide.
>>
>> 6.- The Rolling Stones is going to record a new album this year. Also,
>> they will make another World spanning tour starting in late summer if
>> the rumors are correct (Which they probably are since all their latest
>> tours have started around that time of year since 1989). Do you have
>> any plans to make a new documentary with them?

No plans as of yet

>>
>> Thank you for your replies.
>> Cheers and best regards
>> Kent Alex Pedersen.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So maybe a new release of "Gimme Shelter" is on the way, and they have the full Altamont concert in stock. Very interesting IMO.

(BTW: It's for real. It's not something I just made up).

I bought the 'Gimme Shelter' dvd as my brother's Christmas-present to me (OK, think about it) at my local store here in Holland! However, the back-cover promised a "44-page booklet with essays" that was sadly not included. I went back to the shop but the man had no idea anything failed and couldn't find it either. Someone's been swindled I guess.

I found a dvd in that same store called "Rolling On" some time ago. It seems to be a documentary from 1991 or so, up to the SW Tour. It's not listed in Karnbach & Benson. Perhaps you people know more. Is it official? Is it worth buying?

I saw the DVD called 3Rolling on" in several places, but since it's not an official release, I never thought buying it, because there are probably no complete songs featured. (I guess it's something like the Just For The Record set)

My copy Of GS (the Criterion Edition) does have an excellent booklet with essays by several parties from Stanley Booth, (ex-RS employee) Jo Bergman, (critic) Amy Taubin, Michael Lydon, (critic) Godfrey Cheshire & the inimitable Sonny Barger all nicely designed/illustrated. Maybe your dealer has another copy for exchange? (The bonus features are very welcome also (Prodigal Son, Carol, backstage stuff, etc)

I have the bonussus of course. But the booklets (with neither of the two copies he got) were not included. I don't know from where he bought them in (US?), but the booklets were obviously taken out before they ended up in his store. A pity. But then again I don't believe he got them through the usual retail channels.

JJF : congratulations, it is a smart initiative.

Rumour says the Maysles shot at least the ten last days of the tour.

Some there must be other scenes from other concerts.

Yeah. I hope we get like a special box with the whole Stones performance and some snippets of Santana and some more of the cool Flying Burrito Brothers.

Baltimore. It´s an edited version of the track on Ya-Ya´s.
The footage you see during the song is a collage of MSG material.

Seem to remember going over all this before, but it's all down to cost.

We all know the Maysles have footage from MSG and Altamont 69 but as it took years to get a world wide release for Gimme Shelter on DVD the costs for an Altamont or MSG just aren't viable

Yeah, it was back when I first got my hands on Gimme Shelter on an American DVD. I mailed them and I was quite surprised that they answered it so fast. Since then we've gotten Gimme Shelter on a worldwide release in 2009, but it didn't have any extra stuff that we didn't have on the American 2000 Criterion Collection on it as far as I can remember. As OldKR says: They don't have the rights. I'd love to see hat else they have though.
