Track Talk: LET IT BLEED

Why does the song start out slow? Who thought of that? I used to think they slowed the tape down, then sped it up. Then I realized the key would have to change as it sped up, and it doesn't. So Mick is intentionally singing "warped" at the start. I love the song, but anyone know what the "input" was regarding the slow start?

Are you talking about that little bit of slide guitar in the beginning before the song starts?
The song itself doesn't start slow, maybe it speeds up just a little bit, but that's almost at the end.

why would the key change do to the tempo?

i don't think i've noticed a change in tempo at all.

my fave two examples of changed tempos (getting slower in these cases) are beatles tunes:

you won't see me
guitar gently weeps

Isn't it just some kind of strumming of a low side of a cello or alike?!

Yeah, maybe it's just my perception, anyway, if it does speed up it's like 2 bpm, hardly that noticeable.

To be more precise by second thinking: Doesn't somebody use a bow?!

Mick's vocal is so sluggish in feel at the start, anyway. He sounds like Kermit the Frog's grandpa. And then at about the 1:00 mark he gets the Mick sound.

(Regarding the "fake" comment above: Sorreeeey I missed the parameters of what's "proper" Track Talk! Guess I don't piss away enough time here to know what they are. Frickin' someone freakin' out over nothin!)

No worries, it's just that the Track Talk series are kinda René's territory. And he provides all the recording info, lyrics, etc. If you want to discuss a song, fine, just don't call it Track Talk smiling smiley
