Thanks for sharing this. The shortened Beast of Burden edit is an abomination. However, one edit that actually enhances a song is the edit on live version (from Detroit ‘78) of When the Whip Comes Down on Sucking in the Seventies. It just slices an unfocused part towards the end, if you compare it to the original from Detroit. I’ve always loved that track on SITS.

Almost certain that Rewind had edits (but not 100%)

I like the fact that MJ changed the lyrics up on that one, "A gay in LA".

I wonder if it only occurred to him after the original was recorded?!

According to Rarities Done Right by B. D. Eikenberry (version January, 2023)

Rewind (1971-1984)
1984 UK and Malaysian compilation cassette
• Emotional Rescue [Rewind edit] (3:37) Another unique edit of Emotional Rescue that may possibly be found on other editions of Rewind.

Emotional Rescue
1980 7” promotional single RS-20001, short backed with long (LP) version
• Emotional Rescue [Short Version] (4:11)

Nothing to do with Rewind LP or CD.

I had the UK cassette in mind, thanks!

That reminded me, and I just checked to confirm, the 4:11 version is also on the 12" single version along with the album version.

I got Rewind on cassette in London before I had bought ER the album. When I got ER, I was surprised when the album version was different.

A few of these edits (e. g. IORR, RAAHP) are no true edits but just faded out earlier versions.

That's true, but my list covers only compilation albums. There are a lot more edits, on 8 track tapes, cassettes, normal and promo 7"s, etc.

I can add another rare (or weird) compilation with an edit.
Credits to rogerriffin for detailed information about that CD.
16 Éxitos De Oro
CDEPR 810 109-2
CD issued in 1990
Matrix: 810109-2 01@
MADE IN USA BY PDO
Mexico only
[www.discogs.com]

14. Simpatia Por El Diablo (Sympathy For The Devil) (Edit) 4:33 Track faded in mastering after after the last verse. It is not that infamous edit that was used on 1973 Dutch single [Decca 6103 066]

Oh yes, the ABKCO era edits would be a big separate chapter...

I like the radio single edit of BOB on SUCKING IN THE SEVENTIES - it gets more to the point. Also Crazy Mama. Of course, the single edit of Fool To Cry is on SITS. Hot Stuff, Time Waits For No One.

The Stones have been excellent with their single edit versions.

As we say in England, it can get a bit trainspottery (c) Mick Jagger.
