"Lovely Things" - Jagger kept his word?
Posted by: Doxa ()
Date: November 13, 2012 14:04

It looks like there is no rumoured product any longer in horizon, it is time to check what we got so far...

Official live shows
- English tour 1965
- legendary Brussells show 1973 (with mostly non-bootlegged stuff)
- almost as legendary LA Forum show 1975
- Texas 1978
- Hampton 1981
- a show from not much documented European Tour 1982
- Tokyo 1990
- a rehearsal gig for A BIGGER BANG TOUR 2005

Footage (all of them going in cinemas):
- CHARLIE IS MY DARLING
- SOME GIRLS LIVE IN TEXAS
- CROSSFIRE HURRICANE

Extra/new songs:
- "Gloom & Doom"
- "One More Shot"

Of course, there are some other stuff as well, but that will do for me.

(And this added to the gems of the recent past: EXILE and SOME GIRLS Bonus dics, STONES IN EXILE, LADYS AND GENTLEMEN...)

Well, what do you say?

I say, it has been a helluva year being as a Stones fan! Jagger was wrong that we will be "tired", but altogether I would say he has kept his word.

The great deficits are the lack of a new album, no gig at 12th of July. In contrary I'm looking forward to the small tour and the stripped down concept according to the statement by Keith.

Doxa - "Charlie is My Darling" - 'English tour'? eye rolling smiley

yep, its been a great year for releases since they started rolling these out last November. I didnt expect a new Stones album so not getting one isn't really a major disappointment.

I'm quite pleased with the archive series. No matter what they did, when its limited to six shows in a 2,000 gig career, theres always going to be some moaning but three of the releases (actually three and a half if you include the Brussels one which came from two shows) consisted of material never before bootlegged in soundboard quality, so I dont think we can complain too much. And the prices of the downloads were generally excellent even if some of the other products were a bit overpriced.

Aside from the diabolical gouging and ticket distribution fiasco over the upcoming shows (and its a HUGE sour note in what was supposed to be a year of celebrating a golden anniversary which can't be disregarded) the band's recorded legacy has been dealt with pretty well.

Re: "Lovely Things" - Jagger kept his word?

- English tour 1965 - don't have, not sure about
- legendary Brussells show 1973 (with mostly non-bootlegged stuff) - don't have, will get
- LA Forum show 1975 - don't have, will get
- Texas 1978 - EXCELLENT
- Hampton 1981 - don't have, will get
- Live At Leeds European Tour 1982 - don't have, probably won't
- Tokyo 1990 - don't have, not sure about
- a rehearsal gig for A BIGGER BANG TOUR 2005 - don't have and won't

Footage (all of them going in cinemas):
- CHARLIE IS MY DARLING - haven't seen
- SOME GIRLS LIVE IN TEXAS - EXCELLENT
- CROSSFIRE HURRICANE - haven't seen, won't?

Extra/new songs:
- "Gloom & Doom" - have both versions
- "One More Shot" - have

Yeah, I'd say, a lot of good stuff. Although I do hope for studio recordings to be released. And back in the day this would have cost a fortune to get I imagine.

One of the "LOVELY" things he still needs to do is offically invite Mick Taylor
to sit-in with the band. To my knowlwdge he still hasn't been invited?

This "English tour 1965" intrigues me too. How to obtain this one? Other than buy a
package full of stuff I don't have a use for, for money I am not ever gonna spend on
a package like that.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

He's so going to be at one of the London shows, I don't think a press release needs to reaffirm that. He's on the poster for Crossfire Hurricane, that speaks volumes in itself.
There's been lots of lovely archive releases for sure, and they've played live, which is great. Too bad about the prices, though.

Re "English Tour" I have a picture - could be wrong - that it was recorded not in Ireland, but in England (or UK).

I purpotedly left out the expectations concerning a possible tour or a new record back at the time, because I really didn't really get that impression out of Jagger's "lovely things" promise. I know for some people only those two things matter, and if not come true, it will be a huge disappointment. For me those are really a huge extra.

Besides, I have the impression that the 'archive' stuff (including CROSSFIRE HURRICANE) was the only thing they actually had prepaired for this anniversary year. The rolls started to roll for a new activity within the process of celebrating the past. For example, if true what they say, teh primus motor behind the new tracks was their record company to 'beef' a bit GRRR!. I also think that there was no determinate plans for these five gigs (and more?), before they actually checked out - piece by piece - if it will work or not (starting for example, from that Keith's "open jam" in December).

I won't complain about the opening of the vaults. I'd actually like to hear more release-worthy studio stuff we've not had released yet - that would be my wish.
