Cool story behind one my favorite Stones' photo sessions from 1990s

As told by the photographer Duncan Raban...

I was in a pub at 8:30 having a pint with some friends on a Tuesday evening it was pouring down with rain. My mobile rang and it was a publicist I know for Mick Jagger, from the Rolling Stones. He said Duncan can you go to Ireland tomorrow morning to photograph a few a quick photos of the Rolling Stones. I said are you joking! He said “no”.

Full story with pictures.

Great photos indeed, I remember they were the first sign to me that Stones got together again. The blindfold detail is a bit disturbing though.- I would prefer to drink Guiness with the Stones than secretly taking photos of other peoples children.

It's not often I see a Stones photo session dominated by Ronnie. His house, his beer, his red shirt, his dog too?

I remember these photos so well, especially the last one which was all over the papers. They bring back great memories of the thrill of seeing them back together again after so long.

The Stones allready were into business in 1994, but there they seem much more like a band of men playing together. They have overdone this "greatest rock'k'nroll band" talk since then. On these photos they seem so real.

Those were the days; Ronnie could drink Quinness as much he pleased (got thirsty when looked those photos), and Jagger wore a proper shoes...

Never seen these, thanks for the link.

Ireland is beautiful ... those old stone houses remind one of churches.
Great place to put a creative mind to work ... which is why some of the
great works of art ARE Irish.

When we get near to Ronnie Woods house we will have to blindfold you as the house is a secret location. So 40 minutes later I put a blindfold on, we went up a bumpy track and then we stopped at a gate...

Well they've just spent 24 days rehearsing together 4 hours a day in a seedy suburb of Paris...it does look like a "band of men playing together" to me ;-)

Thanks for posting. Taking a look at the first picture, I had to laugh. As usual, Keith is a mess - his shirt isn't buttoned right and, as far as I can tell, he's wearing a woman's sweater. Not one of his best looks.

You know, I think you nailed it. This is the last set of photos where I felt they genuinely liked to hang out. As if they'd just stepped out of Ronnie's studio after days of jamming. Of course the article tells us Mick and Charlie just showed up late for the session.

I guess the reality is that technology/ProTools made recording so much "easier" and more portable that Mick was like YEA! I GET TO SPEND EVEN LESS TIME WITH KEITH AND RON... I can go make solo records. In the old days (Nellcote, Olympic, and earlier) I bet they really did have to spend a lot of time in each others' company.

HA! You are right! I have come to ignore Keith's fashion so I missed it. But can you imagine anybody else in this get up! A woman's sweater!!!

I bet he grabbed it from Jo's closet.
