It's soon New Year's Eve. Which songs shall I burn on my Stones' Dance Party-CD?
Max 45 minutes play-time.

Now doesn't everyone know that the reason Stones songs are not played at parties is because they are not good to dance to. On the other hand, they are the only songs to play the air guitar too!

Tell me about it! Many's the night I've made an asstard of myself by throwing Keith moves to JJF on the dance floor...

Thank you BobM and Riffhard72. Never have thought about the Stones as dance music. Sounds like Riff and myself had the same dance teacher.

Just before a Halloween Party this year I distributed my 7 CD retrospect of Stones tunes to my freinds. A set was at the party and when they put it on it changed the party for the worse. I sat on the couch stating I hoped they did not put this on for me because it was not meant as party music, I have partied with this group since 1970 and they have never put on Stones music. Only a Brit and his wife (KIM) danced and most others watched his wife because she is the only woman I have ever seen grooving specifically to Keith (as Riff and myself), she was air guitaring, dipping, bending....very strange.

I think the only dance value Stones music has is the entertainment value it provides non Stones fans watching the likes of Riff, Kim and myself do'in the Keith.

I have played both Hot Stuff and Dance and both got many people on the floor, even some young people who probably never listen to the Stones.

For the older ones the country inspired songs seems to make it. Dead Flowers and Evening Gown are bankers. I think I'll go for

Miss You
Dead Flowers
Honky Tonk Women
Harlem Shuffle
Anybody seen my baby
Evening Gown (M.J.)
Hot Stuff
Respectable
Tumbling Dice
Faraway eyes
Lies

This must be a collection for everyone.

Thank you for good advices!

If I Was a Dancer (Dance part 2) is a great dance tune. It was included on Sucking in the 70s.

I think their music is good to dance too but not on the dancefloor, its music to move around too. Walk down the street and make little moves and act Mick and Keith or Brian.

From observation of Stones songs that disco's and clubs tend to play (i.e. not from a Stones fan point of view):

Sympathy - now this always packs out the dance floor - how can you NOT dance on hearing the samba intro?

Paint it Black - sometimes works, depending on audience

Brown Sugar - Good for "chicken dancing" as I call it

Satisfaction - It is the Stones most famous song after all.

Miss You - Well, it is DISCO, isn't it?

I would dance to any Stones song if it came on and I was pissed enough.

Don't forget Emotional Rescue!

OK, I think I'll have to make some changes. I totally agree on Emotional Rescue.
But what about Star Star? I like the FF-recording, but find the original album version a bit too slow. But Dance pt.2 must be a great one for the youngsters at the party.

Bruley is right, a lot of Goddess In the Doorway stuff is really very danceble, I think due mainly to the drummer, Ian Thomas: his work in this record is fantastic, it really makes you feel like dancing.
Miss You, Dance part 1 and Sex Drive are the first Stones dance songs that come into my mind.

"got to be worked on
don't have no bark nor bite..."

Dance

Miss You

I agree with posters about how Stones music is not danced to by non-fans...but at the concerts???? Damn! How many of us have gyrated with cute girls at them??? Ahhh, the memories!!! LOL

I, for one, have enjoyed dancing with whole sections of stadiums and arenas while the Stones rocked!!!
