My All Time Favorite Version Of JJF
Date: October 31, 2012 02:32

Would love to see them play it exactly like they did on Rock 'N Roll Circus. With Bill Wyman on base of course.

To make it even more authentic, they can take Ronnie out of the mix entirely like they did to Brian on this version.

Sadly, Brian took himself out of the mix.

Haven't they been doing that since 1989?

Anaheim '99. They started the show with it and they were off and running.

You mean with Mick struggling to stay on key?

I'll take the studio version, with the original face paint video. Despite the fact that the Stones are the greatest live band in history, some of their studio tracks are just perfect - untouchable. JJF is one, but particularly Satisfaction, Street Fighting Man (for years, just played too fast live) and Honky Tonk Women (with Keith's unreal backing vocals)

and Gimme Shelter. No live version comes close to the studio version IMO.

I'll take the Love You Live version as my number 1. Yes loose and ragged, Mick voice was almost gone but the guitars and energy make up for all of it. Ronnie's guitar is the best anyone played overtop that JJF rhythmn.

Wrong. LYL was flaccid compared to GYYO and the version in Gimme Shelter is even better than that because it has that weird lick Taylor played for a couple of measures over the verse. Fierce!
