Favourite 2 Sided Stones Single

What is your favourite 2 sided Stones single - A side plus B side.
There have been a number of great examples, for example Honky Tonk Women/You Can't Always Get What You Want, Brown Sugar/Bitch/Let It Rock and Jumping Jack Flash/Child Of The Moon but my favourite would have to go to Let's Spend The Night Together/Ruby Tuesday which are equally effective and are both a departure from the more typical Stones sound (bluesy rock).
They represent another aspect to the Stones sound and are refreshingly different.

ABSOLUTELY! TWO WARHORSE SONGS! I wonder if anybody really knew at the time of the release of this single that these two songs defined the twilight of the Swinging Sixties and the beginning of the introspective, horror-making Technicolour Nightmare of the heavy hallucinogens, that did in Brian Jones......

Mother's Little Helper b/w Lady Jane

Those two songs absolutely ruled on Top 40 radio in July 1966, at least in Boston!

State Of Shock.. the Jacksons and Jagger. What was it, early in the 80's? I love that song. I'm kind of a Jacksons fan too. So funny to hear Michael's "AOW!!"'s and Mick's "COME ON BABY!!"'s. Michael Jackson's a cool guy.

Thriller maybe? Bad was definetly a solid album. But he shouldn't have acted so weird..

No, me neither. He lip-syncs his shows nowadays.

But I try to ignore all his personal shit and listen to his music.. check out his latest from 2001, Invincible. He's still got it.

Jumpin' Jack Flash is the Stones' greatest ever single. Absolutely no doubt.

It also contains a superb b-side in Child of the Moon.

Thats their best ever A/B-side - just shading the 3-track Brown Sugar maxi single

Miss You/Far away eyes, HTW/YCAGWYW would certainly be up there

So Gazza, you like "Some Girls"? Elaborate as to why, if you do. I am guessing it's because you were just starting to go to Stones concerts around 1978. For me, this is a really weak period for the band but I know alot of fans absolutely LOVE this collection of tunes. I like Steel Wheels so much better. There again, I am in the minority amongst fans in the age range of 32-40.

well, the Stones didnt tour Europe between 1976 and 1982 so i didnt see the band until 1982

But youre sort of right. I was 15 in 1978 and it was my first 'new' album as a Stones fan

Some Girls is in my top 3 Stones albums, alongside Sticky Fingers and just behind Exile. Musically its pretty much perfect, and the mix and production is fantastic. The way the Stones SOUNDED on record from 1978 to 1981 has never been bettered IMO (even if sometimes, like on "Emotional Rescue", the songs werent as consistently great as the 'golden era' from 1968-72)

One thing "Some Girls" IS however, is Mick Jagger's absolute high water mark as a lyricist.

Steel Wheels? certainly the weakest of the 4 albums theyve put out in the last 20 years. Overfussy and dated production, thrown together lyrics (some of which are amongst Mick's most trite) and mostly decent but forgettable songs. It does however have three moments of sheer magnificence - Almost Hear You Sigh, Slipping Away and especially Continental Drift.

Agreed. Two classics on one disc.

Like Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane, this is a double-A side single.

What that means is, both songs on each side got tons of airplay and made the charts.

Some nice A side/B sides that came along later were:

Miss You/Far Away Eyes--loved the humor of Far Away Eyes. Also the first U.S. release to have a picture sleeve in eons. (Thank the New Wave movement for bringing that back!)

Start Me Up/No Use In Crying-- Always loved No Use In Crying. The opening notes sounded like something off side 2 of Ooh La La. There's also a Brian Jones Lady Jane vibe in there for me.

yeah, but wasn't the flip side "Dandelion", that, like "Ruby Tuesday" turned out to be A-side in US markets?

However, from that particular year I consider "In Another Land" much stronger single (sorry I don't recall the b-side)...smiling smiley

Anyway, I think one of the strongest and most important singles EVER is "The Last Time"/"Play With Fire". The Stones at their absolutely fresh best; young, hungry and dramatic (and I am not alone; I remember reading it being their best selling single ever in UK; Gazza?) That's my favourite.

Brown Sugar/Bitch/LEt it Rock and HTW/YCAGWYW are the easy choices, but a great one is Happy/All Down the Line.
