OT: Queen - Greatest Hits collection
Date: August 21, 2023 22:13

Yesterday it was reported that QUEEN has dropped FAT BOTTOMED GIRLS from their Greatest Hits collection as the lyrics are not 'woke' (slang for not acceptable by todays 'enlightened' standards.

We all know that The Rolling Stones kinda dropped a song from their live repertoire recently for similar reasons.

If we are going to judge every rock and roll song by the standards set today of what is right and what is wrong and what is good and what is bad....

There ain't gonna be much music to listen to in the future.

If the artists themselves are choosing to do this, what's the issue?

Yes, it's too bad about political correctness. But I have to say I've met some youngsters that don't believe in it. Maybe there's hope!

That's correct, but are you sure about that they choose it?

I am pretty sure that MJ and KR did not wake up prior to the last tour and realize after 50 years that BS was a racist song. In fact, I believe it is not a racist song and never was one. But outside 'enlightened' people might have put pressure on them. At least, for the time being, it has not been dropped from any album. But that day may come. That is the trend. A very bad trend.

Don’t get me wrong, but I’d miss
Play with fire
Stupid girl
Some girls
Backstreet girl
Stray cat blues
And many, many more… sign o’ the times

Right wing tabloids sure know how to get their readers riled up.

What actually happened: they released a version of their Greatest Hits collection on a streaming service for children, and chose to leave that track off.

But sure, cancel culture, "wokeness", etc. means it's erased from the world forever.

Apparently it has more to do with keeping the kids from hearing obscure salty lyrics. I listened to FBG as a kid and I do think they make the rocking world go round.winking smiley

I got a bad grade on a paper in college concerning Under My Thumb.
The teacher was a young, angry feminist. She didn't like that I defended Jagger's character's stance in the song. Once she had him down, but now he was in control.

Hmmm...I am unalarmed.

It's not quite the same as burning books or keeping them from being in libraries.

If the artists themselves are choosing not to perform a certain song on a tour, or to rerelease a song on a new rehashed hits album or playlist that's their choice, whatever their rational.

It isn't like you cannot still hear the song. It's unalarming, and at it's worst, maybe disappointing.

Time to close this thread. A whackjob right winger trying to rile everyone up. Who cares, the song sucks. Go complain about Bud Light.

And now, in typical left winger mode, you teach and and try to instruct what people should do...

...but yeah, this topic can't be discussed without getting political, so BV better takes action before it's getting heated.

ok well that would be different then removing the song from there setlists or pulling it off there other collections, albums or radio isn't it

not that i'm fond of censorship but is that what's going on here

maybe some songs just aren't appropriate for an 8 year old

so can we close this thread now and get back to arguing about how good or bad dirty work is?

When I saw Joni Mitchell’s triumphant comeback show at The Gorge a couple of months ago, I also got to see Brandi Carlile for the first time, as she played an opening set with her longtime collaborators, twin brothers Phil and Tim Hanseroth, before returning to emcee the festivities and perform with Joni during her set. Brandi and the Hanseroth twins did a great, rocked out version of Fat Bottomed Girls, that brought most of the crowd to their feet. As a large portion of Brandi’s diehard fanbase are lesbians, many of the trending towards being plump, it was a great example of not taking yourself too seriously. It’s only Rock ‘n Roll but I like it, like it, yes I do! Why? Because it’s supposed to be fun.

Angus - bless him - must not even know what the woke trend is. Therefore there is little chance they will remove one song from the future setlists.

The decandence of the west: tons of free porn on the one side and tons of woke hypocrisy on the other side, both at the same time. Some say that China and Islam will bring us better ways of life...
