This clip of Lady Gaga speaking of Tony with Stephen Colbert is a wonderful tribute to him. RIP Tony, jamming with Charlie now in jazz heaven.

one of the true greats ..

..with voice that held up unbelievably well over his later years.

Will be very sadly missed by multiple generations of popular music lovers.

Sad news - took my mum (then aged 70) to see him at Bridgewater hall in Manchester about 12 years ago - really good voice even in his 80s, even sang a bit without amps to demonstrate acoustics of the venue - a fabulous artist

Saw him once in Vancouver around 2010 at the Orpheum, fabulous show. Highlight was when he sang a cappella, acoustic, no mike, filled the massive room.

What a voice, what a life. RIP.

RIP, Mister Bennett. Frank once called you "the best in the business". I considered him the best in the business but you are right there. I'll be listening to you MTV Unplugged today as I have on many days.

Yes, very sad news.

I also took my mom to see him back in the '90's as she had been a big fan of his for many years.
He was still accompanied by his longtime piano player/collaborator Ralph Sharon who he had worked with for decades.
Anyhow, while I went to the show knowing my mom was a huge fan, I left the show a huge fan myself - the performance was very moving.

Such a great talent and nice guy. An American treasure. A world treasure.

RIP Tony Bennet, and thank you for the decades of precious memories.

Hi YS & HB,

I'm sorry to hear of TB's passing: he was class all the way and one of the few remaining links with 'The Old School'. He had a social conscience too, being active in the field of Civil Rights when it would have been easy to look the other way.

Like you, I took my olds to see TB about 20 years ago or so- I was probably keener than them (at The Bridgewater) and The Man and his performance were sublime. He did not phone it in, by any measure.

This gem came to mind earlier- it's from a European press junket twenty-odd years ago. As with all junkets, different journos were schmoozing to get star’s attention.
French journo: "Tony, your hair is so lovely. What is your secret?"
TB: [pause, beat, frown] "Get real, lady, it's a toupée!"'

Very nice piece from Elvis!
I was at the Spectacle Show he mentions when Tony invited Diana Krall up to duet with him.

Thanks for posting!
