Munich, you're right, I'll give it a rest. I'm caught up in US politics, and Jagger's fund raiser attendance, combined with his socio-political lyrics is so hypocritical in light of his true capitalist nature, which he should take pride in publically, or lyrically. I for one would applaud the honesty, and I'm in no way a one-percenter. I guess it's the hypocrisy that gets me.

Good thing you really are not a capitalist, Sir Mick. I mean really, free enterprise is a greater evil than government dominating every aspect of society. I look forward to the keys to the Villa, Chateau and $10 concert tix. Oh wait, you mean that's not how it works? Gee, I was mislead.

PaulM's point is a valid one. I can only assume Mick's chastising the rich fellow "for locking the door and putting his feet up on the couch" will translate into $35 tickets for the upcoming shows.
No, it's not valid. It's perfectly possible being concerned of how the world develops and making money on your profession at the same time.

Right. He gets rich off the 98% and becomes the 1% but he's still down with the struggle whilst selling tickets that only the 1% can realistically afford. Nope, no hypocrisy there.

From now on, Mick will just write songs about the joys of consumerism, selling, prisons-for-profit, defense industry earnings per share, lies about peak oil, and oppressed & abused third world workers making Phil Knight's tennis shoes.

You right-wing nut jobs see a commie hiding behind every bush. The big question to ask about this song and every rock and roll song is: Can you dance to it?
In the case of "Gloom & Doom," you can.
I suggest paulm that you shake yer ass a bit more and grouse a bit less.

To say the song is 'faux socialist' is a heck of a stretch, but thats an otherwise fair comment.

lmfao, this thread is twisted. It's only Rock and Roll and the Stones have put out a decent NEW tune here. It's not a political statement it's a friggin' rock song. At least we can understand what he is saying. I like Charlie's drumming on the track, like the guitars, not so much the vocal. It could use Bill Wyman and some funky piano fills, imho.
People are taking his words much too seriously here, this is not a political statement. Get real. peace

Wow, Bliss, great poetry! Turns so eerie in the second stanza...it is the lot of many isn't it? The haves and the have nots...Quote
Bliss
There are things you need not know of, though you live and die in vain,
There are souls more sick of pleasure than you are sick of pain;
There is a game of April Fool that’s played behind its door,
Where the fool remains for ever and the April comes no more,
Where the splendour of the daylight grows drearier than the dark,
And life droops like a vulture that once was such a lark:
And that is the Blue Devil that once was the Blue Bird;
For the Devil is a gentleman, and doesn’t keep his word.
