The song is crap! Where's the riff, the hook a defined bridge?

kent made fun of me when i said there was no riff. that hurt my feelings. cos there isn't a riff and it's not nice to make fun of old ppl and stuff.

that hurt your what now?

The riff is a D5 with a flat 3rd thrown in.

I like it.

It has a strange sound - a bit like Can't You Hear Me Knocking in tone.

It's a classic Stones record start.. the guitar and then everyone piles in.

overall.........I'm pretty happy with it. I had zero expectations so I couldnt have been let down.

I am glad they put out a noisey rocker instead of some sleepy lame ballad. I think we are all over thinking this.

It's a last gasp song from a band that is set to retire. Good song from a bunch of 70 year olds.

I still maintain if the lead single off ABB had been She Saw Me Coming, it would have sold like a bitch.

i'm with you fred. SSMC is the lone tune of salvation from an otherwise dismal record.

if by 'new album' you mean GRRR!, then you're correct. If by 'new album' you mean, 'new album', then you are incorrect.

HI Folks, listened to BBC 2 this morning at 8:15 sharp, everyone raving about it, Chris Evans played it TWICE back to back, really Stones at their best, great beat, snarling guitars, Mick in great vocal form, livley up tempo unlike the title Doom and Gloom drinking smileysmiling bouncing smileyhot smiley

I'll say it again folks, gets better with every listen spinning smiley sticking its tongue out I was told go easy on the booze!!!!

I like the song alot. However, I do understand the concerns of those who think the vocals are too upfront with Keith and Charlie overshadowed. I think the concert version will take care of these issues. It's quality music and the lyrics are nothing short of outstanding. You have to like the riff and stretched vowels!!!

I like the tune. Not brilliant, but it is definately in the vein of many such Stones tunes. When the intro started I thought, YES it's gonna be another classic but then it seems they got lazy and just plowed through some standard rather cliche' changes with Jagger doing his thing over the top.

It needs a breakdown, some hard pounding upright piano and some vocal harmonies, imho. I think they didn't put alot of effort into this one, just a short jam that needs more development. The lyrics are fine just the delivery of them that seems a bit off. peace

Wow. Just listened to it on YouTube. Must say I'm really, really disappointed. I really like the music a lot - it's got a nice beat to it, and I think it could have been something, but lyrically it is so bland. For all of those that complained about the lyrics on ABB that I never understood. I know now what you meant. This has got to be some of the very weakest song-writing, lyrically, that they've ever done. So basic and predictable. No high-falooting words, or even attempts at stretching rhymes. Thank the Lord I've discovered some other music to keep me occupied these days!! I'm very saddened that it's come to this.

I think this one has got a bit of legs to it to be honest! Lots of very favorable reviews....just take a look at the itunes Rock download charts from across the globe

Ronnie is currently their best songwriter. They should let him do the job...
Honestly, doom and gloom. "ca casse pas trois pattes à un canard"

Nothing engaging or memorable about it, much like A Bigger Bang. Knee-jerk noise.

Brilliant? Some people are very, very easy to please.

..and others are impossible to please...

ok, I listened to Doom and Gloom a couple of times and it is improvong with each listen. The song has swagger. I will reserve judgement for a while. I did not like EOMS (no I am not comparing) when I first heard it either. Its rocks pretty good for a bunch of old guys.

For a bunch of old guys like me this one is not bad and I have seen them live every tour since the 60's. Yes I said the 60's and I am still alive. Luck but alive.I need one more good hell it does not even have to be good to call it good. 50 years is enough for them and me. I bleed Rolling Stones.

Right, because "Hot Stuff" was a lyrical masterpiece?

Show me a pop/dance song with earth-shattering lyrics. The lyrics are next to irrelevant when pop/dance track's main intent is to get a person to move. You don't put on a song like this, sit down, rub your chin and look for metaphors and the meaning of life.

2005 wasn't that long ago. Just a few years ago. It's still their 'new' album.
