I'm surprised this isn't getting more posts. This is incredibly controversial...could be the most important moment in baseball this year.

It was a bad call, and goes against why the rule exists. I think the extra ump, not used to being out there, just blew it... but who know? I was rooting for Atlanta, and Chipper... but it didnt work out them. They just made too many errors, playing like it was spring training instead of the playoffs... blowing double plays and simple outs.

There was a lot of odd things in the games tonight, but it was fun to watch.

How about when the Rangers had to ask the umps if it was OK for a translator to come out so the manger could communicate with the his pitcher... How do they not have that figured by now?

How crazy is it that Texas, who spend MOST of the season alone in first place, is gone, while Oakland, who spent no time alone in first place (until the last day of the season), is still alive.

Anyway... Today was a historic day for MLB... The first ever wild card playoffs.
Now... onto the real playoffs, which start tomorrow.

I am surprised that Texas lost. I think that they are the best lineup in the AL but they seem to have a habot of choking, I hate that word but what else can I use??

Looks like some of the NFL replacement refs got a job with MLB. Infield fly rule with the ball in the middle of the outfield?

If the incorrect ruling on field was called correctly (I did not see game) would've really changed the outcome? I do not know --only asking-

Not considering lost momentum caused by the bad call..

ChrisFountain, there is no way to know if it would have changed the outcome of the game. It would have been bases loaded one out instead of second and third with two out (the call was so bad the runners were able to advance a base). That is an unknown question. Jason Motte (Would St.Louis have brought him in if there were only one out) could have struck out the next two batters or the guy could have hit a grandslam we'll never know. But Atlanta should have had two cracks at it instead of one.

Whatever the call does not excuse the ridiculous behavior of Braves fans throwing cans and bottles all over the field. Pathetic display!

Re: ot mlb
Posted by: FrankM ()

Yeah that was horrible behavior by SOME of the fans. Some of the bottles probably never made it to the field but rather hit other fans in lower areas. What's with the bottles anyway? Every recent sporting event I've been to sells beer in plastic cups.

ok so i was at the braves-cards game. the infield fly call was probably bad, but it was borderline and the braves put themselves at a 6-2 disadvantage with crappy d... odd since their d was the best in baseball this year.

re the 'ridiculous behavior'... nobody got hurt, it was great fun (no i didn't throw anything but we booed the @#$%& out of the umps), and... frustrated idiots + beer = that sort of thing, every time. theory of drunk relativity, something like that.

Someday I am going to have to see/visit where the Giants play, AT&T Park, McCovey Cove, etc, etc...

"A" marks the spot.

Cincinnati ......3
San Francisco 0

Start of the 5th inning Game 1 NLDS

Hmmmmmm???? So I am looking at the picture I posted above of the ball park,
Which I thought was a BASEBALL park... but looking at it, it sure seemed to have
the smallest right field of all time.... and watching the game right now (and
seeing the Deloren car/boat in McCovey cove) I see the right field looks normal size..
so I wonder WTF?.... so I go back to google maps and zoom in... and AH AH!!!!!

The day they took the google photo AT&T Park was set up for football... and it
looks like they took out all of the right field seat and moved in football bleachers
and I didnt even know they played football there.... so you learn something new every day...
PS- Actually now I remember football there.... at least I recall them playing a bowl game there...
FYIs>> [www.californiagoldenblogs.com] [www.nussli.us] [www.sfgate.com] [www.fbschedules.com]

Anyways.....

Cincinnati ..-..3
San Francisco 1
Start of the 9th inning Game 1 NLDS
Pretty good game, good pitching anyway.....
Did you see the Deloren car/boat in McCovey cove, how funny was that?

FINAL- CINN defeats SF 5-2 ....
after some sloppy defense by SF... and some wild pitching by CINN in the 9th
AND 2 good examples of why the infield fly rule is a good rule also in the 9th

Gm 1 WSH @ STL Sun Oct. 7 3:00 PM TBS
Gm 1 NYY @ BAL Sun Oct. 7 6:00 PM TBS
Gm 2 CIN @ SF ... Sun Oct. 7 9:30 PM TBS

3rd quarter in New Orleans... SD leads 24-14 NBC

THERES NO CRYING KISSING IN ON BASBEBALLs!! winking smiley
[sports.yahoo.com]
Hey, there's no kissing the baseball! Not while it's in play, anyway.

Needless to say, Oakland's ballplayers were a tad unhappy with the amorous interlude that Detroit Tigers reliever Al Alburquerque had with a baseball just before recording a key out on Sunday afternoon. After inducing a comebacker from Yoenis Cespedes, the righthander pressed his lips to the ball and then threw it over to first to complete the play, violating what is no doubt an unwritten rule in the process.

The Kissing Bandit's throw, no doubt contaminated with reliever cooties, went for the third out in the top of the ninth inning and ended a two-runner scoring threat from Oakland in what was a tie game. The Tigers went on to win 5-4 in the bottom of the frame.

To hear Oakland's ballplayers tell it, Alburquerque's premature celebration added insult to injury as they head back to the Bay Area trailing the Tigers 2-0 in the ALDS. Kissing a baseball before throwing it isn't against the rules, but it probably should be.

KA-BOOM!!
Theres that Yankees offense finally kicking into gear scoring 5 in the 9th inning. Yanks win 7-2

meanwhile back at the city by the bay.....
CIN leads SF 6-0 9-0 in the 8th

And thats it... CIN wins game two 9-0
Looks like SF needs those 2 pitchers.. the hippy kid
and that guy with the weird black beard. They said the
beard guy was injured... I dont know where the hippy kid is.

On to Cincinnati, with CIN leading SF, 2 games to 0, needing 1 more to sweep series

Brian Wilson (the Beard Guy) has been out all season with surgery on his pitching arm. Tim Lincecum (the Hippy Kid) had a terrible season going 10-15 with the highest ERA of any starting pitcher in baseball so he is in the bullpen eating sunflower seeds.

And then..... the 3rd out is made.... CIN COMING UP TO BAT!!
And it is NOT the hippy kid pitching... it is some other guy,

AS GAME 2, DETROIT VS OAKLAND HAS BEGUN...
