A lot of Great Rolling Stones songs are covered by other Great Bands/Musicians and i like to name a few;
01. Let's spend The Night Together/ David Bowie
02. Jumping Jack Flash / Aretha franklin
03. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction / Otis Redding
04. Honky Tonk Woman / Ike & Tina Turner
05. Paint It Black / The Mighty Lemon Drops
06. Out of Time / The Ramones
07. Get Off of My Cloud / the Flying Pickets
08. Bitch / Exodus
09. Doo Doo Doo Doo doo ( Heartbreaker) The Quireboys
10. Wild Horses / Faultline avec Joseph Arthur
11. Backstreet Girl / Lambshop
12. @#$%& Blues / Silver Jews
13. What To Do / The Meat Puppets
14. Child Of The Moon / Radon Daughters
15. Dead Flowers / Cowboy Junkies
16. Empty Heart / MC5
17. Sympathy For The Devil / Laibach
18. I Got The Blues / Come
19. Gimme Shelter / Hawkwind
20. Moonlight Mile / Lee Fields

QUESTION:

Were any of these released BEFORE the Stones released their own version, a la Marianne Faithful's version of As Tears Go By?

I don't think any of those were recorded before the Stones's versions.

However, Silver Train by Johnny Winter and Wild Horses were recorded prior to the Stones's recordings.

Thanks...that raises a second question, which is, did the Stones ever PERFORM a song of their before actually releasing it, even while someone else did? I guess from you've said Wild Horses could be a possibility....

The Burritos released Wild Horses back in 1969. There is rumoured that the Stones played it live for the first time in 1971, but that's not properly confirmed.

I dunno if the Stones played Silver Train on the 1973 european tour before it was released and after Winter's version was released, though - could be, if that's what you're asking...

However, the Stones have played a Johnny Winter-song live before he released it (Hyde Park) winking smiley

Thanks for more Stones Covers, Gimme Shelter-Playing For Change is Great!
My list of Stones Covers are all out of my Music Collection and most of them came along with Music-Magazines and are defenitely Covers.
Thanks Andrewt for the Stones Cover by Steve Marriot and Alexis Korner. The Small Faces/Humble Pie made some great records and in may 2012 Mojo published a great article about Steve Marriot.
Alexis Korner great musician and a major influence on the Sound of the British Music scene in the 1960's. They both Passed Away! I had the chance to see Steve Marriot which was great and loud!

This SATISFACTION cover by Cat Power was on a compilation CD that came free with a magazine, and it took me a few listens before I realized it was SATISFACTION, because she does not sing the "satisfaction" parts of the song:
