Both guitars were tuned to open E on Salt of the Earth.

He played open E on IORR 76 version. Around and Around on Love you Live is another good example...

Both open G.

Mathijs

Sorry i don´t agrre with you. Both in open E. And only for the 75-76 tour in case of IORR. Around and around it´s got a E or D? tunnin for that rocker, just try this one in open E and get surprised.......
I´ll try to get a proof

No, both are in open G. It's even very evident in Keith's solos on both songs.

IORR 1975: Telecaster, open G, capo 4th fret. 1976: Zemaitis, no capo (thus key of G). 1977 A&A: Zemaitis, open G, capo second fret.

Does It Matter ?

Exactly - that is the pertinent question here!

It´s all a question of knowledge. It´s good to learn, practise and understarnd the sounds we all love.
I love to play in different tunnins, and i do this because of Keith and Ronnie.
yes it´s ths subject of this thread. Right now I´m playin´Around and Around in open E........just to try if i´m right or wrong.....

Of course you can play A&A in open E -capo on the 5th, and all chord shapes and voicings are basically the same as in open G, except that you play them on the E, A, D, G, B strings and not on the A, D, G, B, E strings. But it sounds totally different -lower, heavier - and the solo is more difficult to play.

But as far as I know Richards has not played open E tuning live on an electric ever in his carreer.

Is there any live footage of this one? The original is in open E tuning as well, or is it this same guitar track ?

Only the vocals are live here, but kudos for bring up R'n'Roll Circus, as Keith DOES play open E live on You Can't Always Get (from '72 on I believe he plays it in open G).

Keith used standard tuning for the whole of the stones part of the R&R Circus live set. Brian used open A for No Expectations.

Including YCAGWYW? I swore it was in open E, like the original recording is.
