Shattered & Moonlight Mile

Also love Crazy Mama and All About You as very different LP finishes

Moonlight Mile.

Come to think of it, it's the best track ever on an official Stones-album, imo.

So what's the best track if you include unofficial albums, for you, DP ? Just wondering

Moonlight Mile. But I love Shattered, All About You as closers very much.

And nothing against Star Star, Crazy Mama and It Must Be Hell

THanks for reply. Unusual choice. I like Jah Is Not Dead, too....though it's 5 minutes too long - but even if it was edited for the better I'd not even place it in the top 10 unreleased tracks. Maybe in the top 30

Excellent question / thread. One of the Stones' undisputed strengths is their tradition of fantastic closing tracks to their albums. From their first album's closer (Walking the Dog) and throughout their glory years it seemed every album closed with something special...(OK, Satanic Majesties' "On With The Show" could be counted as an exception...much better to have closed with "2000 Light Years From Home", no?). Even later albums like Steel Wheels and Bridges to Babylon close with fantastic tunes (2 of Keef's best, in fact), but in my opinion the greatest album-closing song of all time on any Rock album (tied with the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" and the Beatles "A Day In The Life" ) is "You Can't Always Get What You Want".

lotsa good competition but I'll have to go with the piano track off of Dirty Work.

It's more of a 'relief' thing knowing the album is finally over (not that it's getting a lot of spins in this household).

+1

well, I think---Keith will not gone. Thats the reason, WHY!

Alternatively, he could just play guitar. Lord knows he's had 7 years since the last new Stones album to release however much 'solo' material he wants.

I don't need another Keith ballad on a Stones album. Stop the insanity!

OK, I realize I've overdone it a bit.

Nah, you haven't.

Keith did several great ones, but really not looking for another in that genre.

Give the spot to Ronnie "next time" (probably never be a next time).

I don't do "bests" but I do enjoy the end of Goats Head Soup - just when it seems that the album is going to drift off into Moonlight Mile-type territory with "Winter" and "Can You Hear The Music", here comes that tearing introductory lick and we're off into that big brash vulgar final rocker to wake us all up...

Ther's been times when Stones albums had great openers and final tracks.Quite a few of them. One of my faves: Salt of the earth!

Moonlight Mile is my favorite album-closer, but Crazy Mama is right up there.
I love the beautifully weird melodic riff that Ronnie plays during the ending & fade. It always seems to fade out too quickly for me.

For me, it would have to be the all too short track of Ian Stewart's piano that closes Dirty Work. Very poignant and it left me wanting to hear more...
