I'm getting married in a few months and we're trying to think of a good song. My friend used Sweethearts Together, I know many Stones fans hate that song but I thought it worked perfectly.
Any ideas? Doesn't have to be Stones. Dylan has some good ones but nothing that really jumped out at us.
i personally love "that's how strong my love is". my husband had our favorite stones' tribute band learn that song to play at our 25th wedding anniversary party. it was beautiful!
Congratulations! The most obvious choice I could think of would be OT. How about the Beatles' cover of The Honeymoon Song from their Live At The BBC set (recorded July 16, 1963 at the BBC Paris Theatre, London)? It's sure to tug at the heartstrings of everyone in attendance.
Stones are tough for lovey kind of songs, most of their slow numbers are sad songs. Dylan's To Make You Feel My Love is a good one. Maybe some of the Stones roots sort of stuff, check out T Bone Walker.
Funny about "Harvest Moon." If you listen closely, it suggests the preservation or the reconnection to a long relationship that has seen some wear and tear and some drift. He talks fondly about the beginning of the affair and then notes the passage of time and sets a contrast to the present, "but it's gettin' late now..." and "I wanna see you dance again..." For me, that just deepens the story--that the singer is turning back to his longtime lover after a period of relative distance. The "I'm still in love with you on this Harvest Moon" has a touch of surprise and relief. I thought the solo acoustic versions, like the one on the Dreamin' Man: Live '92 album, did a better job of conveying the undertow of the story. The Unplugged version also has a wonderful feel to it.
Anyway, it's still a good wedding song--just one with a little more gravity to it.
Springsteen's "If I Should Fall Behind" is a a beauty and a wonderful suggestion.
Aretha's "Soul Serenade" would be a top choice of mine.
Two friends of mine left the church to "When I'm Sixty-Four," which I thought was a sweet choice.
Maybe "If Not For You"--played a little more like the Harrison version than Dylan's?
My bride and I were married outdoors on clear Fall afternoon almost two years ago. We had a sort of crazy country/bluegrass band (http://thedefibulators.com/music/) that played the ceremony--hymns and all--as well as the reception later on. After the ceremony, as we turned to walk "out," they broke into "Not Fade Away."
My niece got married a couple of weeks ago...the band was an excellent Beatles cover band (well known in Northern California). First dance for the bride & groom was "Here, There and Everywhere"...bride & father dance was "All You Need Is Love." The music was all Beatles...best wedding reception I've ever attended!
By the way, the father of the bride (my brother) quoted Bruce's "If I Should Fall Behind" in his toast to the happy couple.
We picked a song, we were listening to my ipod on shuffle cooking dinner the other night and Mick's Hold On To Me Tonight came on and we both thought it was perfect.
