BBC6 music Stones Celebration request for info

Hi fellow Stones fans. It's been a long time since I posted here. A good friend of mine is a DJ on BBC6 music and he has asked for good obscure Stones songs (both live and studio) and a bit of history behind them. Please could you post your thoughts here. I'm sure he'll give us some good publicity on his show.

Thanks for your help.

Come on somebody must have a suggestion for some obscure Stones numbers to be played on national radio?

Their version of "Drift Away" isn't wellknown but the song is. That could be a good to pick in that regard.

Torn and Frayed off Exile would be a good start. It's probably there most autobiographical song

Hi
how about the Rice Krispies ad ? It totally rocks plus it's dead funny. Rock 'n' rolls bad boys selling breakfast cereal.

Well I guess the obscure to us is different than the obscure to a public radio show. He could go with some versions from the latest boots, which would be obscure or songs like "Too Tough" from undercover,"Hey Negrita", which is very obscure for all not Stones Hard Core Fans, Torn & Frayed a very good choice, Jiving Sister Fanny, Laugh I nearly died from ABB, Hide your Love, from Goat's head soup; Country Honk from Let it bleed, I'm going Down or I don't Know Why from Metamorphosis,

Ah, one of my favorites the accoustic all down the line that Green Lady posted

Hmm some good suggestions. I thought of Black Limousine or All Down The Line from the Like A Rolling Stone cd single.

How about a couple of tracks from the bonus some girls album, claudines back in town' Plundered my soul would be a good one with the origional track put down 40 years ago with vocals and mick taylor put on 40 years later.

This is the BBC, so they can play something from the early live sessions they have in their archives - how about Cops & Robbers?

At the other end of the timeline, what about Under The Radar, or something from Stripped (not an album I'd have thought well known to the general public)?

One category to think about is "good songs from less popular albums" - things like Hand of Fate or Memory Motel, Let me Go, All About You, Too Tough, Too Rude, Had it With You or Sleep Tonight.

Then there are "odds and ends" like Hurricane, Highwire and The Storm, that were never on any major album.

Hi Nick,

Exile On Main St Blues might be a good one. Mick recorded the album promo exclusively for the NME - then Britain's top selling music mag - to coincide with release of the album. It's a unique piece of history rather like The Beatles Christmas messages for their fanclub.

Yep, those are great.

Somewhere on this board there is a long buried thread in which there's a version of my favourite instrumental number ever, namely 2120 South Michigan Avenue. First of all I'd love to find the thread, and secondly, I'd love to hear THAT played on the radio.

You can bring "Between the Buttons" to the BBC and there you have got nearly a full album of obscure songs. Pick anyone you might like!

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!

Ok folks you might be a little annoyed but I recommended Worried About You in the end as it is probably in my top ten of Stones songs and it is obscure....well to the general public at least. You can listen to Jon's show here. Jon Holmes BBC 6 music
