Keith Richards - acoustic guitar player
Posted by: His Majesty ()

So, I've been obsessively rummaging through various Rolling Stones recordings this week and there's something thing that continually sticks out to me. That something is of course Keith's amazing talent and feel as an acoustic guitar player.

In many ways so much of what makes the Rolling Stones sound can be found in his acoustic playing. The distinctive rhythm, phrasing, melody and fills when he plays acoustic guitar acts like a natural, organic core that feeds the machine that surrounds it.

There's something so right and just about his acoustic playing. Something so heart warming, life affirming, evocative, provocative, beautiful and out right musical.

Post some Keith acoustic highlights!

I'll kick this off with I Am Waiting, brilliant guitar work here...

I hear you HM. I really like his percusive and rhythmic approach. He makes every verse slightly different than the previous (as in his electric work) Check out his playing on "High and Dry"

That was my first ever listen to this song. My impressions have little to do with Keith's acoustic playing. More about how Bill Wyman nailed the tune with his bass perfection, Brian Jones was sincere at one time, and how very long ago that was. peace

His acoustic work throughout the big four is a proverbial master class.

There's 2 acoustics on that, reckon they are both Keith?

I do, but just wondering what others think.

There's two, have a listen to stereo mix with headphones on.

The opening licks are split between the 2 guitars for example. 1st guitar you hear plays the opening lick, the 2nd completes it.

SUPERP! Missed this kind of thread for a long time!

I always loved this one:

Is this Keith on both channels? Or just the left/right?

Youre right! Never thought of that and never heard it before.

Yes, and Stones music--and fan clubs--have been available for decades. Lots of stuff posted in this thread has been available for years. So what's your point, then?

Simply because you said you have a bootleg called Acoustic Motherf*ckers with those songs on it when those songs have been available on the Voodoo boots eons ago. You act as if it's a miracle that those songs are on the boot espcially the Beatles song. That's the point, which I thought was obvious.

I only picked up the Acoustic boots 3 years ago and have only been collecting boots for the last 5 years, so I didn't grab the Voodoo boots eons ago, so yes I "act as if it's a miracle" because I'm enthusiastic--and that's what this forum is for, innit, sharing our enthusiasm? Is everyone supposed to reside in your head and pick up on these things at the exact same time you did? Sheesh!
