Worst Stones song?
Posted by: DiscoVolante ()

For releasing 92 singles and 29 studio albums, the Stones have always had an incredible high quality in their output. But of course there are some low-water marks. So what is the worse thing they ever put on a record? I know a lot of you are gonna say Indian Girl or Continental Drift, or maybe something from Dirty Work. But I'm gonna go with: Gomper from TSMR, just horrible in every way.

(Dancing in The Streets doesn't count)

I wouldn't even say Gomper is the worst track of TSMR. I'd give that honor to Sing This All Together (See What Happens).

As for the Stones' worst song, I'd nominate My Girl, an utter butchery of a classic. What was the point?

Ok, 3 votes each. A thread like this holds credibility if there is a poll!

I am tired of the abuse Gomper gets around here.

Gunface is way down there, imo.

Continental Drift or Sex Drive???? I love both eye popping smiley

Sex Drive is probably one of the most perfect recordings the latter day Stones did.

Maybe it's the slick production that annoys me.

I never understood the desire of some people to focus on whatever they do NOT like.
I think there are plenty of songs that deserve more attention, because they are great!

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Whenever this topic pops up, I dare say The Worst can only be The Worst and there can only be one The Worst.

I'd prefer to talk about their best song.

Indian Girl and Where the Boys Go.

No to New Face, Blinded By Love, and Sweethearts Together. They are not too bad.

I quite like Suck on The Jugular, as it is a funky number with Charlie playing some excellent Clyde Stubbelfield Funky Drummer licks.

Do this as a Rorscach test. The first song that came to mind was "Streets of Love". A real sleazefest extravaganza...

Don't be boring :p

For me, psychedelic music that at times misses the mark is more interesting than rock music that ticks all the correct classic rock boxes.

Not necessarily, Tod. But in this case it is. Somehow Jagger isn't that convincing singing love songs anymore...

ok. cos i always think of stray cat and some girls as two sleazefest extravaganzas and i love them both dearly. i'd hate for sleazefest extravaganzas to get a bad rep just cos of one dog...

The 60's:
You can make it if you try (horrible guitar tuning)
I'm free (a very very very good song, but the tambourine track is embarrasing, man, you just can't hold the beat!)
Under the Boardwalk

I have a little doubt with I've been loving you too long. Mick's voice doesn't fit, specially if you hear Otis' "Live in Europe".

The 70's:

Dance little sister (yes, I hate it. This song on the same album with Winter, too much)
Hide your love (amizing slide guitar on top of a poor song)
Melody (why they release this song?)

The 80's (I will name a few, the list is soooooooooo large)
Summer romance
Indian Girl
Tie you up
All the album Dirty Work (specially the horrible Back to zero)
I must say that Steel Wheels' a good album, but I hate the production and the clean "chorusy" sound.

The 90's-00's
Flashpoint... all those horrible quality keyboards... agh.
Suck on the jugular (good song on the wrong album, maybe on B2B will work better)
It won't take long
Dangerous beauty
Infamy (why, Keith, why???)
