Congratulations Germany. Bye, bye Holland.

I wouldn't count them out yet. When I saw Portugal making the last goal (3:2) I think that that was an important goal for Holland if any. Now the possibility that Holland will beat up Portugal and Germany Denmark is not so impossible.

Although there's still chance for Holland and Germany still can be eliminated i think after two rounds nobody believes in Holland high victory against Portugal.

But it is not in their hands - the result of Holland-Portugal does influence to their final position. Only if Portugal wins, they could play a friendly draw.

Even though the Dutch people here seem to giving up, I actually think that most likely the orange team will take the second place. No, I wouldn't like that to happen - still the ugly World Cup final in mind - but that's my bet.

If Portugal wins it won't do with a draw for Denmark. As I understand Holland has to win with two goals against Portugal. But if Denmark takes a point from Germany they (Holland) are out anyway.

Stoneage, theoretically we still have a chance. If we beat Portugal with 2 goals difference and Germany beats Denmark in whatever way, we are in the next round. But no, I don't believe that will happen.

Anyway, it must have been a boring match for neutral spectators. Only the goals were nice and that's it.

Edit: first sentences are superfluous: already noticed by many others.

Yes, you still have a chance, Kleermaker. The Germans still have to secure a point against Denmark to be absolutely sure. And Denmark were lucky against Holland really so it will be a difficult task for them stealing a point from Germany. Looks like Robben is out of form. Maybe you should bench him and give someone else a chance?

Time for a coach who's not so stubborn but able to drop a failing system. And who's able to motivate a team that doesn't seem motivated at all. The chemistry between Van Marwijk and the players seems totally over.

Next match he will start with Huntelaar and Van der Vaart instead of Afellay and Van Bommel, his son in law and the team captain. I always have wondered why the best Dutch player, Sneijder, isn't the team captain. But I think it's too late now, although the situation in this group is quite curious.

kleermaker, i don't think the coach is the problem. I think the problem is that the Netherlands have no good defensiv players at all. None of them is close to international top level. Not much the coach can do about this.

That's true, but they have the same average defence as 2 years ago when they was able to reach final using their great offensive potential. Main problem is that playmakers VDV, Robben and Sneijder are completely out of form. You can't fix them in 3 days. I suppose Van Persie will play as winger against Portugal. He seems to be only one who can provide pass to Huntelaar.

it's always a bit humiliating when a team (Germany) doesn't really need to play tough to win.
Unfortunately, Holland seemed to be pretty tired and too inefficient.
Now, you need a miracle to finish second in the group.

Great Goals by Mario Gomez last evening, particular the first one was world class! Gomez is a great player, a smart and intelligent guy, but the Germans (I´m german) are never satisfied, still critizing him, complaining about his "old school play", which is IMO completely bollocks ....

I´m pretty sure in other countries Gomez would be a indefeasible hero, but not over here ... can´t understand this!

I´m curious: What do other nations think about Gomez?

Re: OT: Euro 2012

Gomez is a class player, and the classical goal getter-type.

Holland's defensive play stunk yesterday, that's goes from the strikers down - the whole team, imo.

Well, he has scored all Germany's goals. Can it get any better than that?

Manchester City calling.. Can we swap Dzeko for Gomez? Maybe we'll throw in some petro dollars too.

Gomez is great striker. If he has good assistance he is unstopable. But talking about Bundesliga strikers i think that Lewandowski and Huntelaar are able to give more to the team than him.

NO! Bayern might buy Dzeko (they are rich without petro dollarsgrinning smiley) but will for sure hold Gomez, they need tow class strikers (and I think Dzeko is one hell of a striker!), because next season they HAVE to win the national championship plus the CL (I´m still a little bit wounded because of this horror-final against Chelsea, this might be healed, when germany wins the EURO, at least a little bit) ....

Germany was much better on all levels. After the first 20 minutes they controlled the game.
My fears became true and even worse than that. It is hard to watch your team struggling like
this, very impotent and no creativity to find a way through the defense. During the first 20 minutes
the Dutch seemed able to co-operate. After that they had no idea what to do with the ball,
when in posession.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away
