he was around in the 6th century....
Although the red dragon is associated with Cadwaladar - King of Gwynedd - Wales in the 7th century and with King Arthur (but probably ultimately originated with the romans) it didn't really come to prominence until 1400 when Owain Glyndwr a 'Welsh terrrorist/insurgent' used it as his standard when carrying out guerilla attacks on the occupying English forces under Henry IV. He was doing alright until the French who were helping him bottled it and escaped back to France. Owain's castle was sacked by the English and his wife and children were taken to London and imprisoned for the rest of their lives......Owain was never heard of again.
15 years later the King of England Henry V employed Welsh archers to fight against the French at the battle of Agincourt. The archers were decisive in this battle. Henry also flew the Welsh dragon - 1415.
The dragon's biggest leap to where it is now came when Henry Tudor/Twdor who had been living in France invaded England via west Wales in 1485, He was actually Welsh himself and carried the dragon through Wales. Although largely uneducated people recognised the dragon as their own and as a result he picked up support along the way, Henry then defeated Richard III of England at the battle of Bosworth, he proceeded to London and assumed the throne as Henry VII. Later he took the flag to St. Pauls cathedral. Later still he added his own families colours to the dragon (green & white) and so gave us the flag we have today. Support for the Welsh in London didn't last long though as his son Henry VIII soon forgot his Welsh heritage being a bit busy arguing with Popes and chopping off his wives heads.............

.lol....that's about it, you're welcome.....Mick stayed down St David's once (the smallest city in Britain)...went on a walking holiday, stayed at the Warpool hotel........lovely horse riding down there too..........

Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus - Happy St David's Day!
No sooner have we stopped drinking to celebrate us winning the Triple Crown last Saturday, then it's St David's Day!!
Particularly poignant this year as rather emotional at the football last night at the memorial match for Gary Speed - raising a glass to a true Welsh legend today..
