Never. 1-and-2-and-3-and-4-and/ - I'm gonna say it's in 4/4.

Since it sounds as slow and depressing like funeral music I would go for 2/2

3/4, like a waltz. Just count 1,2,3 - 1,2,3 and start waltzing mathilda

It's in 4/4. Straight time, but drum/ bass are hitting in odd places.

the song 44 blues is in 4/4 time BUT the structure of the song is odd. I have not counted it out in a while but I think it is 27 and a half bars long......Lots of great old blues numbers have oddities like that. One just has to know the forms. The drum hits are based on parade beats. I play this song a lot.

It's in 5/4 of course. It is GREAT when someone comes up with a bit that is in an odd time sig., yet flows very naturally. Another such song is "Everything's Alright" from J.C. Superstar - very hummable and melodic; you can even sway to it, but it's in 5/4.

Ah, Palace, you mentioned one of my absolute favorite 5/4 tunes!! I've always thought a bit of "everything's Alright" would sound great woven into Take 5 (My band does Take 5 every now and then)... I feel like there is a cool old Traffic tune in 5/4 as well... I can't think of it, though. Anyway, Brubeck's 'Time Out' album is a must have for studying time signatures!

Blind Faith (not Traffic)... Do What You Like is in 5/4:

For the most part's 4/4. a SLOW 4/4 but if you just take out everything else and focus on the bass drum, it hits continuously on 1, 3, and 4.

HOWEVER, there do seem to be a couple measures at certain breaks where the song does change Time Signature, and it does seem like 5/4. Very interesting. Or it could be a 3/4 measure followed by a 2/4 measure, I'm still listening.

Maybe it is easy for you to count out the beat, but I am still unable to count it. If I were a drummer, I would be lost.

I AM a drummer. I did listen to it from a drummer's perspective. It's 4/4 but it does have these funky measures thrown in where it changes time signature for one or two measures, but then it reverts back to the 4/4.

It's easy to count to 7 if you can cash in.

It's got that fantastic hold and then lurch to the 4 for the verses to start.

Wow. Seems like 3/4 with bars of 4/4 added to confuse the hell out of us.

I think it is a 4/4. However, it is confusing because 'everything' seems to happen in 2,3,and 4, and then again everything moves to 1 and 4 and back again. You actually cannot identify which are the strong and which are the weak parts.

I think the way to count the beat on this song is to listen carefully to the bass drum.

Ah, Take Five in 5/4 time. I learned the drum part (not the solo) when I was about 14 years old.

Bit of trivia: No "googling" allowed. What is the B side of Take Five??

Yes Tate. The Blind Faith is another good call. I like these songs because the time sig. is a must; like, the tune wouldn't flow right if it wasn't in 5's.
I used to listen a lot to Gabriel-era Genesis; and that is a group who love 9/8. I have often thought that many of those passages are basically in 4/4, and they just tacked one more beat on to it, just because.. It's not that the phrase HAS to have that beat.
