Lucky you.

Such a pure voice. She was the only real vocal artist of the 80s, 90s.
I kept rooting for her to make a comeback....
Very sad.

I just knew (thought) she would have a huge comeback after
being out of the spot light ....... this is heart breaking.... so sad.

I remember one year, Whitney preformed at the American Music Awards or the Grammys or something like that. It had been years since she had appeared. There is picture backstage of Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion and Courtney Love all gathered around one tiny monitor, watching Whitney's performance - and you could just see the affection in their expressions...like they were really rooting for her to do well. She had the talent.

i was okay with all her work. but only two songs of hers meant a lot to me, at
a certain point, and that's why i posted them earlier in this thread.

so i know its only pop music

and that she was only a pop star

and one that had lost her way...

but i just want to say, in light of recent discussions on this board about
"pop" music versus "real" music, that while i share some of the expressed
reservations about the value of "pop" music and much of the expressed appreciation
of "real" music, there is still something very powerful about a kind of music
and a kind of artist that, when we lose them, even years after their peak, it
reverberates around the globe, as shown on the twitter trend map below.

Music is the only thing this planet truly shares. unfortunately...

Good post Rev,
You don't have to like that kind of music - the production was very slick and of a certain time.
But that voice!. That was real.
My favorite of her performances are when she did a spontaneous live gospel thing on some awards show or BET ...
I remember thinking,
"She's the real deal"

Music and the clock...

this type of music (mellowly)(not RnR) is not my type, but something
about Whitney made me like her.... she was great... what a voice...

They just said that Whitney's body is still in her room at the Hotel. As of 11:00pm EST or 8:00pm in LA over 4 hours after she died her body has not yet been removed. Sounds like a criminal investigation.

So sad for her Mom and Daughter, and for Whitney.

Too bad she couldn't control her demons, and it looks like somehow they eventually got the best if her.

She was so fresh and beautiful when she started out, with a great voice. Pure sparkle. Her early videos are from the tail end of the sweet spot in the 1980s.

So sad that she found herself astray years later.

RIP Whitney, I still have a crush on you.

In LA, unfortunately, they've gotten lots of practice at this and now they know that when it might be a crime scene, you need investigators to look at all the potential evidence- who was with her, when, what were they doing, anything covered up, moved, unusual..

For her family and fans, what matters is she's gone.

For the leeches, TMZ, and the gossipers, it's just another day at the office.

A rumor on one station says she was found unconscious in the bathtub.

Meanwhile next to the Hotel the music is blasting away at the pre-grammy party. Seems like it should have been toned down a little, considering she was supposed to be the guest of honor.

I heard that she was at the Beverly Hilton at the Pre-Grammy's party and that it was Ray-J who found her. Their is a picture I saw of her on Facebook, being led away looking real bad.

She pushed the female vocalist into the future with her style.

Drugs really did a number on her

No one knows yet if this was drugs
But it seems like it.

There's always the jackass in one of these threads.

A life has been lost. Drugs or circumstance doesn't cheapen a heartbeat pumping blood through veins.
