Are the Stones slowed-down hillbilly music? (Speeded-up, why does Keith sound like banjo and Taylor fiddle?)
Posted by: superrevvy ()

I was searching for something or other on Ladies and Gentlemen and so
was fast-forwarding it, but listening to it at the same time. My player makes
a pitch adjustment so it doesn't sound like the Chipmunks vocally or a
complete treble-fest instrumentally. So it sounds "normal". Only double-speed.

Now, maybe its because of the open 5-string (banjo) tuning, or maybe its because
of this herb I'm experimenting with, but a hell of a lot of the time it sounds like
Keith is playing banjo and Taylor fiddle.

I guess I was expecting speeded-up Stones to sound African or Brazilian or
something. But instead they just sounded like 1930's hillbillies.

Speeded-up, why does Keith sound like banjo and Mick Taylor sound like fiddle?

What say the musicoligists musicians around here?

its a good point. there's a raw vibe you hear in Louvin Brothers or Stanley Brothers, it runs through folk music, and the Rolling Stones are steeped in folk music

I'd think you might separate Stones music and where it came from, from where R n R in general 'came from'

its a real melting pot

the question is NOT generally where does rock and roll come from.

there's consensus about that.

the question is specifically why do richards and taylor speeded-up sound
so much like banjo and fiddle?

musically from Africa.

but Peetie
Wheatstraw is assumed to have been born in Ripley, Tennessee,[1] but was widely believed to have come from Arkansas. His body was shipped to Cotton Plant, Arkansas for burial, and fellow musician Big Joe Williams stated that this was his home town.[2]

Why don't we sing this song all together
Open our heads let the pictures come
And if we close all our eyes together
Then we will see where we all come from

er..where did that come from...

Nobody's got an answer for this one? Have I stumped the IORR band? (a very
difficult thing to do)

On Ladies and Gentlemen, speeded-up, why does Keith sound like banjo and Mick
Taylor sound like fiddle?

True.

Have you tried listening to Rhianna sped up?

I've heard she sounds like Kate Smith.

The level of knowledge and supporting documentation of some members is amazing and reach the level of erudition and scholarship. thumbs up

Even though you weren't sincere...

Good experiment. I just did. She sounds exactly like Rihanna and her band sounds
exactly like her dancehall/electro-pop band, just speeded up. Evokes no other
kind of music. Or instrumentation.

Because you sped them up. Not sure what the mystery is. Fiddle play leads etc...
