now the war is declared to the US government by netjackers who have blocked some american sites.

are all options on the table in case this escalates? the nuclear option?
well it's a very pessimistic option but what to do if this war turns into an Internet World War I ?

until there's a Internet WWII, I think we have to be okay with calling it the Internet Great War or the Internet War to End All Wars. or something.

How about Web World War II in miniature? Or am I thinking of the Spanish Civil War?

i dunno...were there a lot of ducks in that one or something?

no fair, i'm calling fowl.

all is fair in love and war...or is it that all are in love or at war at the fair? something along those lines...

It's not only about the freedom of speech, it's about BIG money. Both entertainment lobbyists and sharing sites fight over a big piece of cake they want for themselves. Sites like megaupload make big money from selling premium packages and ads, they are no Robin Hoods, believe me. Take a look at this: [jalopnik.com] and showbiz wants this cake exclusively. Both entities don't care about regular people, they care about their money. Remember it.

So the government is working as an office boy for the entertainment industry now? Is that what
we need a government for?

And is there anything wrong with selling premium packages and ads?

Its not all about money. Wikipedia went down one day in protest. Facebook and Google expect problems too. The US goverment wants control over the world; what we read, listen to or watch, and of course all the " underdogs" do as they are told! What the heck is FBI doing in New Zealand, Germany a.s.o? I wonder what would happen if China or Germany shut down an American company without asking?? Maybe a nice little war? FBI has exeeded their legaly authority- again!.
I wish all hackers all the best in their fight against Uncle Sam /FBI!

When I first read your post, I though it said 'impassioned slurred speech', which made me think that he was either drunk, or having a stroke.

As it is cold outside, a combat sweater makes sense for all outdoor protests.

"The genie is out of the bottle"

Exactly and I bet yer @ss that sooner or later a clone of MU will rise from China, as part of the stealthy war between Beijing and Washington.

The Chinese already make boot dvds and cds of the major US releases so a Direct-DL site operating out of a Chinese city is the next logical step.

And good luck to the FBI to stop this one.

We really need some help here overhauling the Internets flaunting and creative rights killing ways. I'm totally OK with the gov't doing this , it's about time. Film, music aand patent copyrights are all being abused at an all time high and it is NOT a good thing for any of those business areas.

I never jumped on Napster when it came out, I knew it was wrong. It's like the door to the local supermarket being blown open by a big storm. Are you gonna go in and fill your pockets just because the rest of the block is doing it? It's WRONG, that's why I wouldn't do it. Stealing is stealing. Too bad we don't have the collective moral code to prevent this kind of runaway BS.

I'm willing to PAY for what I want, that's what makes the system work imho.

That being said the liberal hollywood elite are behind SOPA so they can continue to afford their high priced drugs and hookers.

However, the devil is in the details... and the republican lawmaker that wrote the bill made it impossible to support. peace

I understand... Please keep in mind that the propagtion of notoriety leads to dollars for the artists. Ok, songs are illegally downloaded and shared. However, if the music is favored, this will eventually lead to success of the artist. The fan will be more apt to visit concerts, and home website of artist, which has advertisements on said page.

We simply cannot jeopradize the Internet for copyright laws because it's free publicity within itself!!

I understand what you are trying to say but propagation of notoriety doesn't even begin to pay the bills for studio time or keep the kids clothed and shoes on their feet. Health insurance? nope. Artists should not have to be reliant on internet notoriety to develop successful careers. They lose all control of the way the material is presented for one thing.

The path between notoriety and dollars is fairly non existant. Plenty of youtube stars who make zilch off the notoriety. Besides the ways and means to internet notoriety are pretty damn lame. The system is far from encouraging for new artists who have greater ambitions than 1 million youtube views. I could go on and on.... peace

No offense...Please consider all revenue generated from Website Ads. Keep in Mind that Artists are now in business with sites such as YouTube and Reddit for example. They share. Why? Anytime a video is played, for example, a commercial preempts the video. Don't worry! This is more of a collateral business endeavor than realized!

No offense taken, and maybe so but as you said, website ads? the artist has to "sell out" to advertisers to realize any gain from his work? That is a complete loss of control by the artist and a helluva crappy way to see profit from his or her hard earned creativity. peace
