Do You Think I Really Care
(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

Pathé Marconi Studios (EMI Studios), Boulogne-Billancourt, Paris, France,
January 2 - March 2, 1978, Le Fork Studios & La Fourchette, Pocé sur Cisse, France,
August 2011 and Electric Ladyland Studios, New York City, New York, US,
September 2011

Mick Jagger - vocals, acoustic guitar
Keith Richards - acoustic guitar
Charlie Watts - drums
Bill Wyman - bass
Ron Wood - electric guitar, pedal steel guitar
Ian Stewart - piano

Yeah, here I come
Do you think that I really care about a girl who's never there
Do you think that I ever cared about a girl who's never there

I see you on the subway, I see you on the D Train
Hey, see her in the afternoon just after the Giants game
I see her on the freeway, Long Island Expressway
Hey, give me a break, baby, help me get out of this rain

Ah, do you think that I really care about a girl who's never there
Do you think that the clothes she wears make me forget she’s never there
I saw her on a runway, St. Patrick's on a Sunday
I saw her eating pizzas on 57th & Broadway
I see her on the highway, I see her on the Sky Train
Yeah, I need a Yellow Cab, hey, help me get out of this rain, yep

I saw you in The Factory, like it’s some kind of allergy
I saw you in the back of Max’s Kansas City propping up the bar on a Saturday
Met you at the gallery, it ended up in anarchy
You was spray paintin' silk screens and double dosed up with flattery

Do you think that I would ever care for a girl who’s never there
Is it possible that the shoes she wears could change my mind if she dyed her hair
Do you think that the clothes she wears make me forget that you're never, never, never
Do you think that I really care, see her hangin’ out on 57th and Broadway
Hey, do you think I would ever care for a girl, for a girl who’s never there

Wait a minute, I need a Yellow cab, let me get out of this rain
Yeah, put your umbrella up your ass, baby, do you think I could ever, ever care

Produced by The Glimmer Twins, Chris Kimsey & Don Was

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Some Girls” 2CD
(Universal Music 278 924-3) UK, November 18, 2011

My favorite song from the deluxe version of some girls! much better imo than the spareparts ..... really enjoy that one!

One of my favorites as well. Always enjoyed this one, but still think of it as "Yellow Cab" (the title of the original bootleg).

Wonderful country twang and gently-rollicking beat. Clever, mildly-trippy lyrics evoking the Big Apple and a girl who is very, very difficult to forget.

And I love Jagger's sloppy vocal style here ... it proves that he is still capable of singing and NOT over-enunciating! (These are 2011 vocals, right??)

The album really starts with this song. Jagger's voice sounds very inspired.

Do we have to thank Honestman for them Stones to make this available?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

We do indeed. I was having lunch with Mick at Taco Bell the other day and he mentioned that seeing Honestman's post was what gave him the idea of including it on SG Deluxe.

Funny, I've had this one playing away in the back of my mind all morning, and when I log on to iorr, what do I find?

Very enjoyable track, mock-country vocals by Mick and real country music by the rest of the band. Reminds me a bit of Send It To Me.

charmed i'm sure! :E swings right along just like Stones Country should
i'm especially touched by the references to 57th & Broadway: that's where i lived, when i lived in New York -
i wasn't sure the Mick was payin that much attention spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

it's remarkable that mick didn't butcher this and render it unlistenable with the new vocals. there's hope, after all.

Yuck. You know the "meat" is below the quality of meat used for dog/cat food there right? Well, it is in all fast food places but for some reason Taco Bell is the worst.

Back to our regular programming...

Outstanding track on this extras album. I really dig the 'saw her on the D train' and the like parts. This one along with No Spare Parts makes a great twofer to play over and over.

And then to really get into it include You Win Again and We Had It All and suddenly you have a really nice EP going.

Sounds like a rumor. [www.snopes.com]

Mick, of course, prefers Taco Cabana.

Way before this came out last year it had always been one of my favorite Stones song and couldn't believe it was never released. And when it came out last year I couldn't believe how great Mick's vocals were. Proved to me he could still same in that same country style voice. I think a new album of blues, country and acoustic songs would be a great way for the Stones to put out something new that really catches people's attention.

The original outtake is pure perfection. I do think Jagger spoiled it with the new vocals.

As a matter of fact I played the some girls bonus cd a couple of days ago. Was a long time ago I played this. I agree with Mathijs. The 2011 version sounds much less because of the new vocals. Is not the case with every song on the bonus disc, but here it most definitely is.

Well, to add a sense of balance...I'd never heard the original vocals, only the newly redone ones for the deluxe album.

After hearing this, I have to say I prefer the newly recorded deluxe album mix. They are a bit more aggressive and "in your face".

I don't know if it's simply a matter of being more "used" to that version, but there you have it. I guess it could be the same argument if you preferred the original vocals, and that's what you were first exposed to.

Great tune. The bootleg version is great as well as the official release. My favorite track off Some Girls bonus disc.

Nice song! I also prefer the original vocals. The main one for me is "Do you think I could EVER care" as opposed to "... REALLY care". "Ever" worked much better, I feel, so the restored vocals is great. "Saw her on the highway" with Mick slightly chuckling was also missed!

I get it.

We get used to what we hear.

But grateful it finally got released: it's pretty damn good regardless.

So much more they could've done. Misty Roads for one.

They finished those blues tunes... really? Not sure why the time, AHEM, effort, was put in to the better songs.

Quite so .

I love the whole album .

Could it have a better track list ? ...maybe.

Are there better versions of some songs? ... possibly.

But I still love it as it is...

wish they'd release it on vinyl

The real shame is that it got sort of buried with Some Girls. This album could have stood on it's own, much like Blue & Lonesome, as an homage to country.

That could have given this more deserved visibility.

That's what I've often thought and said .

The Some Girls "Bonus Material" is genuinely one of my favourite albums...

Thus far with these re-issues, the bonus disc on Some Girls for me ranks near the top as far as any official rarities/outtakes the Stones have released (the Exile re-lease being second). Even with newer vocals added, as a whole, the bonus cuts are strong with very little filler. Since its release, I have found myself coming back and listening to the bonus disc more often than the original Some Girls release.

Regarding Do You Think I Really Care (even with new vocals added), IMHO is the cream of the crop. It has grown on me over the years.

Like treaclefingers noted above, the bonus album could have been a great stand-alone, as a homage to country. Which brings me to another topic that is no surprise to Stones fans: The Stones do country really well. In fact, they are one of the very few talented artists (which is one of the reasons they have lasted over 60 years) that can venture into different musical genres (country, disco, punk, psychedelia, etc) and produce something worthwhile.

Regarding the Stones flirting with country music, I came across a U Tube video entitled Stones Country (which were alternate boot versions of country tunes that have circulated for many years now)

and it got me thinking of what I would consider to be a great official anthology release of Stones country cuts. I would do a little re-arranging and re-shuffling of those U Tube video selections (substituting commercially released takes) and it would look more like this:

1) Dead Flowers
2) Far Away Eyes
3) No Expectations
4) Dear Doctor
5) The Worst
6) Country Honk
7) Do You Think...?
8) Torn & Frayed
9) Wild Horses
10) Factory Girl
11) No Spare Parts
12) You Win Again

As opposed to a number of other albums in their catalogue, this is very thematic, much like Blue & Lonesome or Exile, so if you like the style, you'll love the record!
