Petrol Gang

I would not be wrong but 'Petrol Gang' seems to have the same sound of the bootleg version. It seems that compared to other songs P.G. have been taken directly from the bootleg, then cut and inserted as a filler.

Thanks---I was thinking the very same thing!!!
Shame they didn't expand on this song...

Petrol Blues sounds like Dylan around the time of the Another Side Of Bob Dylan album when he was doing all that piano vamping. Weird that the quality is not as good as the other Some Girl extras.

I do believe that is the sound they were going for though...that old, Robert Johnson 'blues' thang.

I think it suits the song quite well...if it was 'better' produced, it may in fact sound 'over' produced.

"old Robert Johnson" is the first thing I thought when I heard it. I believe they were going for that sound intentionally.

Thanks--It be hard to believe that the Stones didn't just feel like finishing it and just released it raw!

I really like the sound of this song, too bad it's so short.

from Keno's:

Petrol Blues

Recorded January 5, 1978 as Petrol Gang, released with new title on reissued Some Girls CD on November 21, 2011
Vocal: Mick Jagger Piano: Ian Stewart

Credits

12. PETROL BLUES
(JAGGER -RICHARDS)
Mick Jagger - vocals and piano ???

Who's playing the piano on this song?! eye rolling smiley

I always thought Stu played piano on it. I would've never thought it was Jagger and if you listen to the outtake you can hear him says: ""Play it faster Stu, you're behind me, two miles behind me...".

It's Jagger. Stu's on percussion, apparently!

The reason why the released version is truncated is because Jagger felt the anti-Arab 'sentiment' might be too controversial. eye rolling smiley
