Brussels 1973 2nd show

Did they play Midnight Rambler at the 2nd show at all? Is there anyone who was there and could tell? I mean because they used the song from the 1st show in the release. Could it be that they dropped Midnight Rambler for Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo?

Might be they used the one from the 1st show, because it's the ultimate version.

There are curiosities about the new release. I would like to read an interview with Clearmountain Why include 1st show performances? Surely they knew those performances are widely circulated. Did they not get the 2nd show performances on tape? Were they substandard? How substandard could they be? Who cares anyway. If you are going to use 1st show performances why patch ADTL? Why not just use the 1st one? The general consensus is that Taylor is low in the mix. Why is it that his solos are right there, but his licks (so to speak) are low? Was that simply a choice or is there something in the taping process that makes it impossible to bring up Taylor's licks without throwing something else off in the mix?

Regarding that well known frenetic performance of MR, I admire it, but do not particularly like it. It is like an action film that leaves me little to respond to. I much prefer the stealthy Ya-Ya's version. It's musically sexier.

You make a couple of points I'd like to address. First off, "All Down The Line" from the 1st show has a pretty obvious mistake by Keith near the end of the song right before the "won't you be my little baby for a while" chord change. The band charge on through though and it still rocks like crazy. In the 2nd show, something goes wrong with Taylor's guitar. Not sure what, but he just stops playing. He comes back in near the end of the lead break. They've added Taylor's solo from the 1st show performance for that reason. As far as the other songs included from the 1st performance, I don't have any audience recording of the 2nd show to check with, but I assume there was some reason (mistakes, guitars way out of tune, incomplete recording, etc) that caused them to use the versions from the 1st show. I actually feel that most, if not all, of the songs performed in the 1st show were superior to the versions in the 2nd show, but I'm glad they released mostly the 2nd show anyway as we already had the 1st in great quality. The only thing better would have been complete soundboards of both shows with this professional mix job.

I know we probably won't get another from the '73 European tour, but damn, I'd love to hear the entire Wembley 9/9/73 show in this sound quality.

I sent a mail to Clearmountain about heartbreaker. He does not know or remember if it was played during the 2nd show.
He wrote 'more to come stay tuned'. Guess he is currently working on or did the next shows to be released.

"we know it's a bit late but we hope you don't mind if we stay"

True but I've noticed omissions of songs at shows that I've attended on this site.

But it now is clear that the 2nd show WAS a Heartbreaker show. Jagger's remark, Taylor's tuning up and Richards' out of tune guitar all show that Heartbreaker is coming from this 2nd Brussels show, and not from another show.

Zentgraf's site is 'work in progress' ; he doesn't list songs unless they're "proven to be played"....there's several examples of audience tapes (new sources) popping up, with more songs in the setlist than what Zentgraf has listed. That "Midnight Rambler" is not mentioned at that site, doesn't mean it wasn't played

If I were to guess; I would think that Midnight Rambler was performed at the 2nd Brussels show; since it has been played at every single show from 1969 to 1976. They never cut out that song even if they were running out of time....instead they've chosen Tumbling Dice, Street Fighting Man and others.....but not MR.

so - by inference, it's possible they also did Gomper at the 2nd brussels show...intriguing...

It's possible that they did Gomper at every single show in their career; but that Zentgraf simply hasn't listed it, as it's not present on his tapes. THat is food for thought!

All I can remember of the second show was getting out of the first, seing all the belgian fans in front of the arena and from whom we were separated by a row of policemen on horses.
