Redd's one of my favorite guitar players. I wondered if anyone might know who I was writing about.

There are a lot of great guitarists that population at large have never heard. Redd Volkaert is certainly one of them. The cat can play! Woof!

Yes, nice to see MT mentioned.

Sorry for the digression, but RS mag in the politics (online) section has a very nice article that sums up US tax policy for the last 40 years: "How The GOP Became The Party of the Rich." It is astounding and should be required reading for every voter in this country.

what is this a list for? keith richards is not an outstanding solo player ad jimmy page is overrated. what about johnny winter, leslie west, tony iommi, SRR and dickey betts?

Re: OT: 100 Greatest Guitarists - Special Issue RS Dec 11

Clapton, and Beck etc etc are not overrated. But HOW MANY MORE TIMES do we have to see these lists with the same names?
Can we not make it more intretsing for everyone involved? God, just a list of Top 25 without Hendrix, Page, Beck and Clapton.
Good to see Taylor on a list. But there are many many awesome guitarists who will never make these lists.
Richard Lloyd, James Burton, Zappa

I wasn't joking when I said Phil X earlier.

This guys guitar talent is immense, two thirds of the way through he does Hendrix's Fire.

Jaw dropping.

I would much listen to Phil X then most of the guitarists in the top 100 list.

Phil X is a YouTube legend and has done hundreds of great vintage guitar reviews for FrettedAmericana.

This guy really is good. I'd forgotten about him. He reminds me of Val Kilmer. LOL I was afraid you were going to post some mindless shredder. I can't stand it when I see some shredder, or even some 10 year old kid just mindlessly flying up and down the scales, doing their VanHalen tricks. It is more biology than music.

Yeah, Phil's not some kid (he's 45 now).

Phil X filled in for Richie Sambora recently on the Bon Jovi tour when Richie was.. er.. "ill"... he does a lot of session work as well.

Phil can play anything, any style (nearly, he'll wing it if he can't).

He makes guitar playing seem enjoyable, as it should be.

These Rolling Stone lists are always so bogus--

Any list that doesnt include GEORGE HARRISON is suspect right from the start !

Also, where are the names Richard Thompson,James Burton, Ry Cooder,Mike Bloomfield,or Mick Taylor ?

Also-- where are Dave Edmunds....Mark Knopfler...Mick Jones (Clash)......
these stupid lists drive me nuts !

Some of the best guitarists on the planet are Johnny Winter, Popa Chubby and Bernard Allison. Where are they under the 100? MT only on 37? Ridiculous! Forget that ranking, it is senseless and absurd.

I forgot to mention there also is an article on the stones for a possible tour in 2012.Keith welcomes MT and Bill Wyman to tour and so does MJ.

Sammy Haggar - wants a stripped down tour with no backup singers let Keith sing some backup

Tom Petty - mentions he grew up on the early stones and mentions bring back Wyman and MT. He says Taylor was amazing.

Lenny Kravitz - also wants wyman and MT and suggested let RW play on his songs and MT play on the songs from his time.

Joe Perry - also likes the idea of a tour
