OT --kind of--Taylor Swift live

watched the Taylor Swift segment on 60 minutes last nite. regardless of her music, her stage show features things I saw done ( and probably pioneered ) by the Stones, years ago...like being hydraulically popped up through a trap door to the stage..swinging out over the audience..

plus she described rejecting a big record deal that would have made her subject to manipulation in the deal..
she said no thanks, I'll do my music my way...

my daughter loves her...and I think she's kinda cool.

My daughter loves her too..and it's good to see a young girl with a head on her shoulders...not like some other young bright stars that burn out before their time...

Taylor Swift Live...

When I read the thread title, I'm thinking that this will be about how fast Mick Taylor can play.

She didn't so much reject a "big record deal" as she rejected a development deal with a big label. These contracts are not very lucrative, but in lieu of big bucks the record company invests money in promotion, lessons (singing, playing or whatever may be needed), obtaining a backing band, setting up gigs, and all the other things needed to take a nobody to being a star. Somebody can be manipulated in a deal like this, but not so much in the present day. These days they are often short-term, not like in the Motown days when people signed these deals and basically became indentured servants. If Taylor had blown up (like she eventually did) she would have had other labels drooling over her and willing to buy out her contract. From what I understand the main reason she rejected the deal was that it didn't have any immediate plans for recording an album, they wanted to develop her more and she wanted overnight success.

that was a great interview, and the backstage outtakes clip was cool too.

what I like about her is she's the real deal...oh yeah and she's pretty fine.

would love to see her open for the stones next summer...think about that middle school demographic MJ $$...
