Clearly inspired by 1950s rock and roll but with a more modern edge

She is a true specialist...it´s a cover version...

Don’t Be a Stranger
(Total running time: 4:06)

It’s not a reggae song, but it has a reggae vibe. “Don’t Be a Stranger” is another mid-tempo number that has a simple and catchy chorus. The melodies have a sing-song, lilting quality to it that match the carefree, inviting spirit of the lyrics. For example, the opening lines are: “I haven’t seen your face for years. I thought you had just disappeared. Don’t you worry. What are friends for? You can call me up most anytime. I never go to bed ‘til 5. Don’t be stranger. Just knock on my door … Don’t be a stranger, a stranger no more.”

So Jagger redid the vocals on Do You Think I Really Care...

What a shame.

Could it be a re-work of "Never Let Her Go" ?

So Young
This version definitely has finished lyrics, which tell the tale of an older man who meets a girl “at the arcades” and woos her. An example: “I took her down to Barney’s, bought her a brand-new set of boots … She was terminally cute.”

Same lyrics as the 94 version ... and same length too.

You'd think just for fun she'd review "I Need You". An obvious fan favorite.
What a rookie...

After reading the review here are some thoughts about the release:

Claudine-nice to see they left it alone, even still with the original lyrics

So Young-don't see the point in including this one.

Do You Think I Really Care-"clearly enunciating the lyrics"-ouch! let's hope it doesn't mess up this "outtake classic"

When You're Gone-it's a middling outtake but I'm looking forward to hear what they did with it

No Spare Parts-the drunken charm is gone from the outtake and it's a bit too serious of a song now, but aside from the out of place acoustic guitar this sounds fine.

Don't Be A Stranger-Kowalski might be right about this being "Never Let Her Go" on the outtakes. I've always liked the 50's style guitar work on that one.

We Had It All-sounds like very little was done to this one, which is great because it's one of Keith's finest.

Tallahassee Lassie-Sounds like Jagger just did some new vocals and nothing else was changed. it's a nice nod to their roots but along with So Young not sure of it's inclusion over stronger material from the era.

I Love You Too Much-I'm really interested in hearing this version, especially how it sounds with prominent Keith backing vox (I wonder if they have been added in 2011?).

Keep Away Blues-I wonder the origins of this one-Armpit Blues maybe?? There is a prominent harp on that one. If so, it's a great choice.

You Win Again-They did keep Keith's vocals after all. though the drunken jagger vocals will be missed

Petrol Blues-sounds like they're just using part of it and despite the credits (since they were wrong about Keith on You Win Again) saying it's Mick on piano, I'm sure it'll be Stu.

Overall sounds like a solid collection. I'm looking forward to buying and hearing it.

I don't think Don't Be A Stranger is the song we know as Never Let Her Go.
Judging from the line-up, my guess is Do You Get Enough.

Yeah, I believe your guess is correct. "Do You Get Enough" aka "Lucky In Love" features both harp and marimba and "Never Let Her Go" doesn't.

Well, a free illegal download is all the record industry deserves. I'm so sick of hearing some journalist telling me that she's already heard it. Did she pay for it? No. So why does she have more rights than I do?
Really, I hope that these record industry executives who let loads of people a free pass to make it clear that they couldn't look down more on their customers, whom they prosecute like criminals, well I hope that these people will soon enjoy the pleasures of chinese private equity removing them from their jobs and stealing their pensions.
They deserve nothing better. That this journalist gets to hear it before the dedicated fans who pay good money is just another slap in the face.

Journalists are provided with advance copies for a reason - so that there can be reviews in the public domain in order to make the public aware of the product and to persuade people like you and me to buy it.

It coud have been worse... with the inclusion of the delicate "What Am I Living For". Jagger really butchers the song on the two takes that leaked to us... eye rolling smiley

At least it appears to be the rockabilly "Claudine." I'm still expecting some lyrical changes or edits, but we'll see.

"I'm still expecting some lyrical changes or edits, but we'll see."

It would be funny if Jagger replaced "Claudine" by "Carla [Bruni]"

The fact that a journalist gets a tracklisting and than 2 weeks later another journalist gets to review the tracks is all part of the built up in the marketing campaign to create a buzz. To create maximum sales. It's how it works.

Lame review from someone who knows little about music; she is clearly just another hack who is pandering to the Stones and doesn't have the brainpower to indulge in any serious assessment of the music. (Jann Wenner should hire her!!!)

Her remarks about Jagger's vocals ("clearly enunciating", "coherent lyrics", etc) have got me particularly worried about this release.

Shitty Review, - I mean...
“You Win Again” is the type of song that has “honky tonk saloon” written all over it"

It's a Hank Williams song !!! It's one of the greatest Hank Williams classics ever and she goes..Put it this way: “You Win Again” is the type of song that has “honky tonk saloon” written all over it"

You call this a review ?

Who knows - this might be a one of the greatest Stones releases ever, but with review like this- you cant tell - I' mean..it says:

" Clearly inspired by 1950s rock and roll but with a more modern edge, “Tallahassee Lassie” is another Rolling Stones song.."

- Oh yeah, Clearly inspired by 1950s rock and roll - it's a cover version of 50's classic...

I'm sorry, but this review is a joke.
