Stones Plaque at Edith Grove

I have just finished watching the film "telestar" about record producer Joe meek. Excellent film.

What I can't believe however is that even though he shot his landlady and himself they put a plaque up on the building she owned, yet we have no plaque for the stones at Edith grove

Jimmy Phelge was trying to do this a few years ago, but apparently unsuccessfully.

Yeah I know - walked past Edith Grove a few years ago and expected to see a plaque

The first residence shared by Brian, Keith & Mick during their formative years (or year & a half or so?)

Some good history made there and The Beatles visited them there.
I'd say it's worthy of a plaque.

Very important place in the formation of the band. Bill left his equipment there and Brian tried to play bass with the idea of replacing Bill. That's one instrument I've never seen a picture of Brian playing. You really need to read Phelge's book to understand the importance of Edith Grove.

i understand the importance of Edith Grove. it is important to us Stones fans. but is it important to the general public?

No. But then is ANY place of historical musical significance important to the general public?

Keith's former house in Cheyne Walk (just round the corner from Edith Grove) is next door to the former home of the author George Eliot (she died there, having lived there for only about a month)

Her house has a plaque. Is that of greater cultural significance than a house a few hundred yards away which heralded the birth of the city's most successful musical export?

Perhaps the house at Cheyne Walk could have two plaques; one for George and one for Keith?

Two different houses. Hers was no 4, his was 3. (Mick's was 48).

Point being that its hardly unprecedented. I think the Edith Grove one is of more significance.

I Was there in 2009. The only sign of its stones connection, was a small "Keith Richards For President" sticker above the door.

I was also suprised at the lack of recognition, given how many other homes in the area had historc plaques. I thought maybe the owners did not want to attract the attention of the masses.

Unfortunately, one of the residents already qualifies under this rule.

Rolling Hansie..yea'cheers mate.I love those old English basement flats. The ones that have all the windows with the bars can be a bit dangerous if a fire starts because they'll usually designed with the kitchen in the front and thats where most fires start. We had one in Knightsbridge and South Kensington
