(Richie Furay)

I got a feeling about you, love who's been fooling who
Crazy eyes I been a foolin' you
You sing songs about brass buttons and shiny silver shoes
Crazy eyes what had you to lose

Down among the South Carolina pines
You spent most of your lifetime in deep thought
Then changes come about and you find the time you spent
Wasn't quite reason for being bought

So now to be or not to be is the question...now
Crazy eyes don't you forget how
'cause I'm used to seeing your face in the crowd
You thought you saw me
Crazy eyes blind as you can be

On the same album, they covered Gram's song "Brass Buttons".

(Gram Parsons)

Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes
Warm evenings, pale mornings, bottled blues
And tiny golden pins that she wore up in her hair
Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes

My mind was young and then it grew
My thoughts known only by a few
A dream much too real to be leaned against too long
And all the time I guess she knew

Her thoughts still dance inside my head
Her comb still lies beside the bed
But the sun comes up without her, it doesn't know she's gone
And it remembers nothing that she said

Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes
Warm evenings, pale mornings, bottled blues
And tiny golden pins that she wore up in her hair
Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes

The Byrds fired David Crosby in 1967, telling him they didn't like his songs very much, and that they thought the band would do better without him. His best work with the Byrds remained unreleased for a quarter century, not seeing the light of day until the 1990 box set.

Somehow, McGuinn & Co. didn't think this track, recorded in 1966, was good enough to make it onto the "Younger Than Yesterday" album. It was released 25 years later, as a bonus track on the remastered CD.

Professional jealously, not McGuinn's religious beliefs, is what kept this track off the original "Notorious Byrd Brothers" LP. Say what you will about the subject matter, anyone with half an ear would have recognized this was a staggering achievement for a 1967 pop recording, and would have green-lighted its release, regardless of any moral misgivings.

Next time we have one of those "Who's Your Favorite Poster" threads, be sure to mention me. No one ever does, you know. I think Justin mentioned me once .... but I think he had me confused with someone else.

Great band!! Did anyone of you notice the similarity of the alternate studio version of Lover Of The Bayou ( CD 2 of the legacy edition of untitled/unissued ) and Love Is Strong?? The harp, the melody...this is Love Is Strong, isn`t it?

Great, great video. Never seen it, but never really looked either. Thanks for sharing. Wasn't that a great band with Clarence on guitar? What a player! He added such a strong dynamic to The Byrds.

Nice thread about a band that DID matter.

Is that Skip Battin on Bass?

That is very much Skip Battin.

And yes Clarence White did some tasty things with a Telecaster!
