Surely someone noticed Ronnie's laugh in the background at 3:40, right? haha
This song is sooo beautiful and lovely...

Shortly after that album came out a friend of mine pointed that out to me, and he doesn't like the Stones anywhere near to the degree that I do (goes without saying of course; I'm posting to a freaking RS message board, for f#ck sakes).

At the time I wasn't thrilled with the album or that song, but it has really grown on me.

Yeah I have always noticed that. After the "maybe baby" line. Maybe he's laughing at the Buddy Holly reference.

I remember thinking that it was probably their swan song--Keith riding the horse into the sunset sort of thing. That's it, folks. A little metallic bongo thing (or whatever it is) at the end to lighten the mood, akin to Harrison's laughter interlude after his heavy song on Sgt. Pepper.

Love it. That opening guitar sequence is possibly the most relaxing piece of music I've ever heard. I just wish it had have been repeated throughout the song a bit more.
