The officially-released (instrumental) version is utterly forgettable pseudo-Stones filler.
Nicos, thank you for graciously taking the helm and expertly guiding Track Talk to this point. It’s been a glorious voyage and it ain’t over yet … 2 blues covers + 10 more soon-to-be-released!

Recorded in the studio on July 1, 1964, released in the UK on the album 16 Hits, Oct , 1964. That version had no vocals and only featured Brian Jones and Keith Richards playing with sessions musicians.

I'm talking about the version Nicos mentions:Quote

I think you have included both versions in one in your liner notes, NICO
I'm also pretty sure that Mick was the only Stone on the version with vocals.

There seems to be some confusion here.
The version of "Memphis" by the Andrew Oldham Orchestra as incorrectly included on "The Rest Of The Best" is an instrumental version.

Not on my copy, where Mick sings it loud and clear

Well that's very odd, my version is identical to the one on 16 Hip Hits.

Maybe ABKCO realized they'd included the "wrong" version (i.e. the instrumental) and corrected the mistake?

It doesn't really sound like a BBC-recording. I'll rip it for you.
You wouldn't by any chance have the CB Blues-version of The Rest Of The Best, would you?
Might be that they did more changes to this box set than we were aware of

Deltics, I meant who's playing on the instrumental version so I can change the original post.........
