"This has that extra `charisma' that separates the Stones from everyone else"
Yep I couldn't have said it better myself.

"Thief in the night is the best Keith solo song since Take it so hard and the best Stones song in ages... Infamy is the only song on ABB I ever listen to"

I agree with that too. Most of ABB has the flavour of Jagger = songs that try to grab you immediately. You might call it a sort of musical vulgarity that the more complex KR songs are completely free of.

In final analysis, maybe "Infamy" is too complex for most of you IORR lads? >grinning smiley<
Sth like "Rough Justice" is more suited to your low-level musical sensitivity?
C'mon just admit it : you're a bunch of low-brows grinning smiley

Nice simple song.
Always have liked it. No need for grandiosity to end an album. The simpler the better.

LOVE this song, but I think it was sooo much better live than the studio version.

I am definitely in the minority, but I love it. Have since first listen. It closes the album much in the way 'Shattered' did on Some Girls, IMO - this groove as a song kind of thing. It's not a great song per se, but I have always just loved the vibe of it, and those little elements: Keith's funky guitar riff, Mick's harp blowing, the eerie organ intro, Charlie's simple but effective 2-hit snap in the break.

Agreed. It's got a vibe and a little bit of mystique to it. ABB is way too long and full of garbage to go with its smattering of strong tunes, but I like the idea of a muted, anti-climactic ending.

Pretty bad. Keith's songs for the last couple of decades are so devoid of any melody. Thief In The Night, The Worst, How Can I Stop...A lot of "feeling", sure, but hardly any melodies to be found.

A funny moment tonight. I was using a local coffeehouse as an office and had my iPod on shuffle as I did paperwork. And then a lot of noisy people in line drowned out the music coming through my earbuds so I could only discern the introductory drums of the next song and no other instruments...and I thought Michael Jackson's BILLIE JEAN was starting up...and it turned out it was INFAMY. (!!) I love both songs, but never thought I'd confuse them, even with noise drowning instruments out! I was quite amused.

The Worst has a brilliant melody and production...Infamy on the other hand is just a 4,8/5....grinning smiley

When thinking it thru thoroughly, I might add 30 released songs after Infamy on the list.

Some of them:

Under The Boardwalk
Susie Q
The Singer Not The Song
Cool, Calm, Collected
Who's Been Sleeping Here
Sing This Song Together (both versions)
On With The Show
Sad Day
Rock And A Hard Place
Suck On The Jugular (at the very bottom of my list)
Blinded By Rainbows
Gunface
Keys To Your Love
Losing My Touch
Stealing My Heart
Streets Of Love
Hurricane
We Don't Wanna Go Home
Indian Girl

you forgot: back to zero, winning ugly, sweet neocon, driving too fast. and indian girl is a fantastic song by the way!

Yeah, Boris, I've actually learned to appreciate Indian Girl more. Maybe I'm getting soft grinning smiley

And I take back On With The Show. It doesn't belong on this list.

I like Sweet Neocon and Driving Too Fast a bit, though. Mick's rhythm guitar is a little boring on the latter, though.

You want a compromise?: If Mick had sung it, everybody would claim it's a highlight of the lp.

A completely Infamy thumbs down

Nothing to compare to Blinded by Love(a very nice country ballad)

Infamy is a song to point to as an example of where editing and sequencing help an album immensely.

Leave off Infamy, Look What The Cat Dragged In, Driving Too Fast, Sweet Neocon, Streets of Love, Let Me Slow Down add back Under the Radar, and have this as the sequencing, and you'd have an absolute latter day classic:
side one:
She Saw Me Coming
Rough Justice
Oh No Not You Again
Dangerous Beauty
Back of My Hand
It Won't Take Long

side two:
Under The Radar
Rain Fall Down
Biggest Mistake
Laugh I Nearly Died
This Place Is Empty

I find it funny that there are Rolling Stones songs that I've only listened to once and hated so much to never listen again.

I actually had to double check to see if that was on Forty Licks.

One of my favorites on the album. Keith's vocals are top-notch, and what a great groove!
