An awful day that I'll personally never forget and which I've thought about every day since.

RIP to all the innocent victims and sympathies to their bereaved families.

Thoughts to the victims, their families and friends.

That day I remember my 11 year old son coming downstairs telling,he´s just received a phone call
by his friend, talking about some terrorists crushed a plane into the white house.

I replied, his friend must be crazy...switched on the TV and watched what happened.

What a day with such an immense pain for so many people.

As a NY'er who went down there to work 4 days after 9/11. You can't describe in words the scene down there. It's like watching a movie, you only get to see and hear it. The other senses can't appreciate the full effect. You eliminate, smell, taste and touch. The smell was nothing like I ever smelled before, and you realized this once you got down there. The taste that lingered in your mouth was strange. To actually feel pick up and stand on a building that was pulverized was surreal.

The smell and the taste is something I will never forget

>But I'll let you in on a secret you may not know, New Yorkers are like that most of the time,

So true. On one of my first days in NYC, I was crossing a street, fishing my keys out of my pocket, when I felt a tap on my shoulder: "You dropped this" a gentleman said, as he handed me a $20 bill.

I recall looking forward to Sep. 11: I had it circled on my calendar since earlier that summer when it had been annouced as the release date for "LOVE AND THEFT".

At the time, I lived a mile west of the Pentagon and worked a mile south of it. While driving into work that morning at about 8:40 am, I was thinking that it was such a nice, sunny day that I'd knock off a little early and go for a bike ride. But that changed as soon as I got to the office, when a colleague told me that the first plane had hit one of the towers.

So I called my dad, whose office was three blocks east of the World Trade Center. Our speculation at that point was that someone driving a small plane had a heart attack at the controls. While we were on the phone, the second plane hit the other tower. "Sounds like World War III's starting, pal. You better go."

Shortly after that, one of my colleagues whose office faced the Pentagon looked up from his computer to rest his eyes and saw the third plane bank down toward the Pentagon. Three days later, I found out that one of my high school hockey teammates was missing, and that it was only his second day working in the World Trade Center.
